The Co Op Foundation has developed the Community Future Grants Programme in recognition of the commitment in communities, and the opportunities to unlock the potential of community assets and build a vision for the future.
We want- to support organisations who have a focus on developing communities for the future; We are particularly interested in, but not limited to, drawing on the voices of young people and developing young people to be the leaders, co-operators, organisers and activists in and for these future communities; support organisations that are working to bring their vision for future communities to life; to see cooperation, leadership, and people working towards the kind of communities they want to live in, building on the assets within their communities to support that vision.
The fund will provide support to community and voluntary organisations who wish to explore and or enhance diversity, equity and inclusion within the group and its community.
Supporting organisations to think about how best Equity, Diversity and Inclusion can be addressed enabling everyone in the community to realise their potential.
The purpose of the Commissioning Programme is to enable organisations to commission new work.
The finished work should be in a form capable of being presented, exhibited, published, performed and/or disseminated in its entirety at the point of completion in Northern Ireland (if applicable abroad) either live or online.
This programme prioritises applications that:
Propose commissions of high artistic quality;
Are planned to reach significant audiences primarily in Northern Ireland through live performance, exhibition, publication, broadcast, recording, and/or other audience channels;
Provide for an extended life and/or extended public reach and impact for the work or project that has been created;
Demonstrate a strong collaborative-engagement process between the commissioner, performers and the commissioned artist(s) in the development of the new work; and
Demonstrate innovation and deepen the experience and understanding of the artform.

Power NI's Brighter Communities programme was created to help champion a diverse range of community groups across Northern Ireland.
Small or large community, sporting, charity and youth groups from across Northern Ireland are eligible to apply for support from the Brighter Communities fund.

Open Invite to PEACEPLUS Theme 1.1 DCSD Council Phase 2 Co-design workshops.
Derry City and Strabane District Council has been engaged since April 2022 in the Co-design process for Theme 1.1 of the PEACEPLUS Programme. Phase 1 public/community workshops in May/June/July engaged approximately 200 participants from over 130 organisations across the city and district. 95 Concept Forms from 62 organisations were received for the 19th August deadline which closed Phase 1 of the Co-design process. Engagement with the co-design process has been excellent.
SEUPB have confirmed that DCSDC has an allocation to bid for of €9,254,427 (estimate £7,763,631) with relevant cross-community projects. The total ‘ask’ on Concept forms from the council area was almost 4 times the available budget for the bid. The bid is to be submitted in ‘early 2023’. We’ve also have a participant target confirmed which equates to an average of £736 per participant. This is much lower than in PEACE IV and will have a big impact on the conversation in Phase 2 discussion as it may make some types of projects impossible.
Phase 2 of the Co-Design process will focus on going back to the community with the collective ideas and prioritising the best fit of ideas with the programme requirements. All organisations should note this process is done in the public interest and ultimately projects included in the bid will be publicly, competitively and openly tendered / procured once funding is secured.
All the phase 2 workshops (below) are open the public. Advance registration is not required – just turn up. Tea/Coffee will be provided. If you have any particular access / equality requirements please contact peace@derrystrabane.com in advance.
We are writing to invite all of you to our march & rally on 1st October to highlight the horrendous situation facing our people due to the cost-of-living crisis. The march is scheduled to leave the Train Station in Duke Street at 2pm traversing the Craigavon Bridge and making its way to the Guildhall Square.
Derry Against Fuel Poverty has organised the march and rally. We are not affiliated with or connected to any political party, and we are a grassroots, organic group created out of necessity to give a voice to the voiceless in our beautiful city.
A conference will take place on Saturday 8 October from 1- 5pm in The Junction to mark the Derry Civil Rights march on October 1968.
The Northern Ireland civil rights movement was made up of a diverse group of people and organisations with differing political aims, ideologies, cultural and religious beliefs. They forged a unity based on a growing awareness of the need for an effective vehicle for political and legislative reform with the common vision of social justice and equality for all through peaceful means.
A conference will take place on Saturday 8 October from 1- 5pm in The Junction, Bishop Street, Derry to mark the Derry Civil Rights march in October 1968.
Key figures from 1968 will reflect on civil right in 1968 and, alongside other social justice activists, will also explore current day civil rights issues such as the increasing poverty driving many to despair; the lack of a Bill of Rights for all; the ongoing housing shortage; the climbing cost of fuel coupled with low incomes affecting a huge numbers of people in Northern Ireland today and the civil rights of women in society.
The aim of the event is to promote and provoke discussion on civil rights for all.

How To Encourage and Support Physical Activity In Older Adults

The Institute of Public Health (IPH) invites you to attend a ‘Getting Active For Better Ageing’ webinar on 20 October, which will focus on public health and behaviour change and how to encourage and support older people to be more physically active.
This webinar will include presentations from Professor Ryan Rhodes, University of Victoria, Canada, Professor Mark Tully from Ulster University, and Professor Suzanne McDonough from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
As part of the online event, IPH will also launch a new Public Health Matters digital learning module, ‘Getting Active For Better Ageing’, to help healthcare professionals to support older people to have more physically active lives.
IPH Director of Ageing Research & Development Professor Roger O'Sullivan will also chair a Q&A discussion with a panel of healthcare professionals about how behaviour change can be supported.

Guide Dogs NI (Northern Ireland) can support your organisation take a step towards making your workplace and community more inclusive to people living with a vision impairment by offering free Sight Loss Awareness Training. The training includes the following:
An understanding of the different types of eye conditions that lead to sight loss
The practical and emotional impact of living with sight loss
Training on how to use sighted guiding techniques to enable staff or volunteers to be more confident in supporting people living with sight loss.
The training can be delivered face to face or virtually depending on the needs of the organisation.
This training will give your staff and volunteers understanding about the challenges vision impaired people face and practical sighted guiding skills giving them confidence when they meet people who are blind or partially sighted.

“HUMAN” by Mr. Yann Arthus-Bertrand in support of the International Day of Peace, and during the Good Relations Week, will be screened on Wednesday, 21 September 2022, from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Whittaker Suite, Guildhall in Derry- Londonderry.
The 45 minutes film will be followed by a discussion and light refreshments.
“HUMAN is a collection of stories, offering a reflection on what it means to be human. Through these stories full of love and happiness, as well as hatred and violence, HUMAN brings us face to face with the Other, making us reflect on our lives. From stories of everyday experiences to accounts of the most unbelievable lives, these poignant encounters share a rare sincerity and underline who we are – our darker side, but also what is most noble in us, and what is universal.
The Playhouse are looking to hear from artists of all disciplines who have a strong interest in and who place climate justice and the circular economy at the heart of their practice. We would like to hear from visual artists, performers, storytellers, musicians, creative writers, photographers, etc.
There will be different opportunities available over the next 12 months as part of Artitude: Climate, Culture & Circularity, an exciting new partnership project that uses the arts and creative practice to encourage behaviour change and challenge attitudes to waste, consumption and climate action in the Northwest.
Opportunities include:
● Community Engagement: structured programmes of socially-engaged workshops with various different community groups, leading to a collaborative creative outcome. Subject to Access NI checks.
● Skill-based workshops: one off workshops that introduce groups to zero-waste/climate based arts practice.
● Talks/Events: opportunities to introduce climate/circular-economy based practice to a wider audience.
● Showcasing: opportunities to exhibit or perform work made about climate action and/or the circular economy during an upcoming Climate Arts Festival.
Artists are invited to submit their CV and 6 images or extracts of work, along with a letter no more than 2 sides of A4 paper, showing the following under sub sections with headings:
● Main artform/s
● How your work/practice adheres to the principles of zero waste/circular economy OR how your work contributes to awareness of and action on the climate crisis OR how your work connects to awareness of the rights of nature and rebuilding connections to the environment.

Based in Derry/Londonderry School Employer Connections (SEC) has provided careers, employability and work-related learning opportunities to young people for over 21 years linking over 1,000 Employers with all 193 NI Post-Primary Schools.
