1 Climate Action Fund

The Climate Action Fund (CAF) is supporting communities across the UK to take action on climate change. These communities will demonstrate what’s possible when people lead in this work. With National Lottery funding, they’ll work together, share their learning and be active participants in a broader movement of change.

This second round will focus on supporting medium-scale to large-scale projects addressing waste and consumption. Our focus remains on 
place-based, community-led partnerships that will make the changes in their community they believe will have the biggest impact on climate change.

Area: UK-wide
Suitable for: Community-led partnerships
Funding size: We’re offering two types of funding in this round - development funding and full awards. The maximum grant size for development funding is £150,000. For full awards, the maximum available is £1.5 million.
Total available: Around £8 million to 10 million is available for this second round of funding. We expect to make 12 to 15 awards in total in this round, and to award more development grants than full awards.
Application deadline: 5pm on 8 April 2021 for your initial idea. If you get to the next stage, we expect the rest of the application process to take six to eight months.

2 Enabling Growth Fund

Area: Northern Ireland
Grant size: 6 grants of up to £15,000, plus mentoring support of up to 30 hours.

Priorities: We will prioritise those that have a clear plan and can evidence potential growth in terms of number of beneficiaries, impact, service delivery and income generation; We are keen to see innovative approaches to growth; We will not be prescriptive about the theme or issue your organisation will be trying to address. We will, however, want to ensure that the support is to meet a charitable purpose.

The applications will be invited through an online application on the Community Foundation’s website www.communityfoundationni.org and will follow two stages:

Stage One: Initial online application via the Community Foundation’s website by 1:00pm on 12 March 2021.  This must include an organisation strength checker – https://vcsestrengthchecker.org.uk/.  This must be attached to your application, and must help shape the nature of what you are requesting financial assistance for.

Stage Two: Shortlisted applications will be invited to present their project to the ARN Foundation panel representatives, and other sector leaders, on 30 March 2021.  This will consist of a ten minute presentation, followed by approximately ten minutes of discussion and questions from the fund panel representatives.  Please note that depending on government restrictions and social distancing guidelines, this presentation may require to be done remotely using an online platform.

 People's Priorities - Health and Social Care

The COVID-19 pandemic had major impacts on health and social care in Northern Ireland during 2020/21. We at The Patient and Client Council are keen to hear how the pandemic has affected your healthcare or social care, and how appropriate and effective you feel the Health and Social Care (HSC) response to COVID-19 has been.
 
We are engaging with the public through this survey in an effort to understand:

  • People’s experiences of using HSC services during the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • The consequences of COVID-19 for people’s routine / scheduled healthcare and social care.
  • People’s levels of satisfaction with the restrictions imposed on ‘normal’ HSC services due to COVID-19; and
  • The extent to which people feel that they have been adequately informed on how to keep themselves (and the wider population) safe and healthy.
The survey aims to evaluate the HSC response to COVID-19 to date, from the perspective of service users. This will allow the PCC and other HSC organisations to:
· Learn what people think has worked well, or not so well; and to
· Use this learning to adapt better to COVID-19 in future, and particularly to inform decisions around ‘restarting’ HSC services during 2021.
 
After the survey closes later in 2021, response data will be analysed and a report generated.  This report, including recommendations based on the findings, will be published online and shared directly with other HSC organisations (e.g. Department of Health, Health and Social Care Trusts). Findings will be reported in a way that will avoid identifying individuals or their responses.
 
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

5 Social Prescribing Network Conference

Elemental is exhibiting at the 3rd international Social Prescribing Network Conference on the 4th and 5th March 2021, Social Prescribing & Community - Beyond the Pandemic. 
 
This it the 3rd international event for the social prescribing network and is the only international conference for social prescribing in the world. 9  OUR Generation training - positive mental health and emotional well-being in children

PlayBoard’s OUR Generation programme offers a suite of training on supporting positive mental health and emotional well-being in children through play. The training is aimed at staff working with children aged 4 - 11 years in a School Aged Childcare setting, school, or community group.
The training is open to individual settings within the Urban Village areas (North, South, East and West Belfast, and Derry/Londonderry) and will be delivered via Zoom at a time suitable to you. Settings outside the Urban Village areas that have children attending from within the areas are also eligible to participate.

13 UU students help Lecturer in his quest to raise £10,000 for local charities

First year students at Ulster University’s Business School at Magee are calling on people to turn their COVID-19 blues into community action and to help raise much needed funds for Foyle Search and Rescue, Foyle Down Syndrome Trust, Foyle Hospice and Pink Ladies Cancer Charity.

These future business leaders have joined forces with well-known lecturer, Dr. Éamonn Ó Ciardha to devise Éamonn’s Charity Chop which will see Éamonn shed his signature long locks on 9 March 2021.

As part of their induction, students are introduced to the work of The Science Shop which is a resource for the community and voluntary sector across Northern Ireland which identifies students from a relevant subject discipline to do a charity project as part of their University coursework.

The students form teams to come up with creative and novel fundraising ideas.

21 March is No Smoking Month

During the COVID-19 pandemic, health is more important than ever. Join with us and others around the world, supporting the World Health Organization’s (WHO) ‘Commit to Quit’ campaign.

Stop Smoking services are available across NI. They are offered through many community pharmacies, GP practices, HSC Trust premises, community and voluntary organisations and by Cancer Focus NI.

These services can make a quit attempt four times more likely to succeed!

They help create a stop smoking plan to make the quit attempt as easy as possible and can give tried and tested tips to make quitting that bit easier. This includes coping with cravings, managing stress, avoiding weight gain and developing a healthy lifestyle.

22 Void Gallery announces move to new location

We are pleased to announce that in April 2021 Void Gallery will move to a dedicated exhibition space in the heart of Derry city

This exciting move will enable Void to bring its visual arts programme to a wider audience. Void’s new home will be located at the foot of the Derry Walls, at Waterloo Place, and will provide an exciting new tourist attraction for the area with two main gallery spaces and a walk-in education space. The building is street facing with a wide glass front, which will enable the gallery to present its programme, even in lockdown.

Chair of the Board of Directors, Void Gallery, Eamonn McCann, said: “Relocating to Waterloo Place is a big step forward for Void, and a great move for Derry, too. Art will now have a home at the heart of the city, not set apart but amidst the swirl of everyday life.”

As part of the move, Void has commissioned the artist collective Forerunner to design the gallery’s reception and office spaces. Forerunner is a platform for collaborative visual arts practice bringing together artists from different disciplines and backgrounds.

The inaugural exhibition will be Before the Cypress Broke, launching April 17th; a fundraising exhibition that was initiated in response to the recent catastrophic events that have taken place in Beirut, Lebanon. It is presented in partnership with the Beirut Art Residency (BAR). Bringing together works by contemporary Lebanese artists and past BAR artists-in-residence, the exhibition will combine works on paper, photography and video works depicting personal investigations of artists in relation to the city.

Void is delighted to welcome upcoming artists to exhibit in its new space this year including Elizabeth PriceEva Rothschild, and Aleana Egan.

Void’s education programme will have a dedicated drop-in area at the front of the building where members of the public can call in and get involved. The new building will also be fully wheelchair accessible.
