1 The Good Friday Agreement - Have your views heard

The Belfast/Good Friday Agreement will be 25 years old in 2023. To mark this event, Community Dialogue are facilitating a series of consultative dialogues with a wide range of individuals and groups. The purpose of these sessions is to explore people’s views of how the Peace Process has developed over the last 25 years.

We will be asking participants:

  • Where are we in terms of the Peace Process?
  • What are the difficulties we face?
  • What do we need to do to overcome those difficulties?
  • What needs to be done now in order to achieve a better future over the next 25 years?

Would you be willing to participate to have your voice heard?

In conjunction with North West Community Network we will be facilitating a dialogue session on:

Wednesday 1st February at 10.30am
Venue: Holywell DiverseCity Community Partnership,
10-14 Bishop Street
Refreshments will be served

2 Update from The National Lottery Community fund

The National Lottery Community Fund continues to support communities across Northern Ireland.
Their popular small grants programme,
National Lottery Awards for All, is open and accepting applications for community led projects that will bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities.

Groups can also apply for two grants under Awards for All in a 12-month period. This could help organisations who want to support those who are struggling as a result of the cost-of-living crisis or who want to bring people together to mark moments of local and national significance such as His Majesty the King’s Coronation in May.

Decisions can take up to 12 weeks on an application so bear this in mind when you are planning your project start date.

The National Lottery Community Fund recently
announced awards that have been made through their funding programmes in Northern Ireland and this will give groups an idea of the type of projects that they can support.

Further advice on funding options can be accessed by visiting their
website, calling 028 9055 1455 or by emailing enquiries.ni@tnlcommunityfund.org.uk

 The Fibrus Community Fund

The fund is aimed at addressing digital poverty by awarding grants of up to £2,000 to enable local groups and organisations in particular areas, to provide access to digital technology for the most vulnerable in that community, with a particular focus on older people and young people aged 18 and under.

We want the fund to support community organisations who are supporting young people or older people to address the digital divide.

We will offer grants of up to £2,000 for projects to address any gaps that younger and older people might face in their communities, which may include provision of access to technological devices.

Eligible postcodes: BT48, BT81, BT82

6 Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership Programme

The Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership (BCPP) Programme is led by CDHN and funded by the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB), with strategic direction provided by a multi-agency Steering Group. BCPP supports communities and community pharmacists to work in partnership to address locally defined needs so that people make connections, listen to and understand each other better and work together to address the social determinants of health and health inequalities.

We recognise that health is impacted by much more than the everyday lifestyle decisions that we make, important as they are. Research shows that social isolation can be as damaging for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. With this in mind, our projects aim to address these wider issues and tackle the root causes of poor health. These vary greatly for different groups of people and may include mental health issues, housing issues, low educational attainment, poverty or debt. Group work and relationship building is at the core of all our projects. By sharing our assets, our lived experiences and supporting each other we can achieve great things.

For information on the Programme or for some support with your application, please contact a member of the BCPP team on 028 3026 4606.

Closing date for next funding rounds:
Level 1 - 16/2/23
Level 2 - 23/3/23

11 FREE Online courses for residents of NI

Public Health Northern Ireland has partnered with the Solihull Approach to sponsor FREE online courses developed by psychologists and professionals.

These courses are designed to help you understand your child’s feelings, as well as focus on your own feelings as you go through life as a family. You will also learn to understand the changes in your child’s development and how to make the most out of each relationship.

We wholeheartedly recommend these courses – they are for everyone, for everyday parenting. They don’t tell you how to parent, that’s up to you. Instead, they give you a framework for understanding what might be going on and space to think about how you want to respond.

For ALL parents, carers and grandparents, we all need a bit of headspace and thinking time occasionally.

From bump to 19+ years. Including adult relationships.

15 Grief & Bereavement in Northern Ireland

The Commissioner for Older People is supporting the Patient and Client Council in their work to develop of a Bereavement Charter for NI as part of the NI Bereavement Network.

A Bereavement Charter sets out pledges to bereaved individuals and loved ones about the standards of service and care they should expect to receive following the death of a loved one.
To help the Patient and Client Council to begin the wider societal conversation needed for the development of a Bereavement Charter for NI, the PCC are running the following survey to understand what matters most to the people of Northern Ireland when considering death, bereavement and grief.

This survey encompasses all experiences and is not limited to life-limiting conditions or expected deaths.

If you are interested in completing this short, anonymous survey, we encourage you to be as open and honest as possible in your responses.

Your input will ensure that charter development is more representative of our society and the communities within it.

20 Mayor uses flower power to brighten up local gardens

Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Sandra Duffy is already looking ahead to spring, with the launch of a new scheme to brighten up gardens and green areas throughout the City and District.

Cllr Duffy is looking forward to brighter days ahead and encouraging everyone to join her in creating some beautiful wildflower meadows - or Mayor’s Meadows - as they can now be known. A limited amount of local wildflower seeds have been sourced, which the Mayor would like to donate to local groups or individuals keen to enhance their local areas.

The initiative follows on from the success of Council’s ‘Don’t mow let it grow’ campaign which has transformed green spaces across Derry and Strabane in previous years. Wildflowers are vitally important in creating healthy ecosystems and providing fertile ground for our native honey bees to thrive.

A limited amount of local wildflower seeds are available, and can be requested by emailing mayor@derrystrabane.com
