1 The‌ ‌Cancer‌ ‌Charities’‌ ‌Support‌ Fund‌ ‌

The Cancer Support Funding award will enable charities to provide a wide range of support services for cancer patients throughout NI, and will cover key areas in the cancer pathway; from pre-diagnosis, through to palliative and end of life care. These services are key support mechanisms towards the implementation of the Cancer Recovery Plan and the Cancer Strategy, and important in working towards the Department’s aim of building cancer service capacity in communities.

The Cancer Charities’ Support Fund will provide support of between £5,000 and £1 million for cancer charities.

The three categories of grant values are:

  • £5,000 to £30,000 – Small Grant
  • £30,000 to £500,000 – Medium Grant
  • £500,000 to £1million – Large Grant
Closing Date: Oct 7, 2022 13:00

2 Charity Pot Funding

'Charity Pot' is a Lush hand and body cream where 100% of all sales (minus local taxes) are distributed as grants, to groups working in the areas of:

  • Animal Protection
  • Environment
  • Human Rights (incl. social justice, peace & equality)

Charity Pot grants range from £100, up to a maximum of £10,000 per project/application.  The average Charity Pot grant is between £2,000 - £4,000.

Charity Pot grants provide targeted funding to small, grassroots groups.
Charity Pot grants prioritise projects that aim to create long-term change.
Charity Pot grants are looking for organisations that take on issues that others don't, those that push the boundaries and challenge the mainstream opinion.

Applications are accepted at any time, and there are no cut-offs. However, you should allow at least 3 months from application to when you need the funds.  Applications are assessed on a first-come-first-served basis.

At the event four groups will pitch an idea and everyone at the dinner votes for the project that they want to receive the community investment prize (the money taken in entrance fees). Tickets for the event can be purchased here.

10 World Alzheimer's Day Events 21st September Deeds at the Old Library Trust

DEEDS are hosting two workshop to highlight World Alzheimer’s Day on Wednesday 21st September. Both sessions are aimed at carers, and they do not have to do both sessions, but it is an option if they so wish, and we will provide lunch for anyone who opts to do both.

1. Creating a Dementia Friendly Environment – led by Stephanie Coyle (Dementia Navigator) 15 Places.  Beginning 11am in the Family RoomThis session helps carers to become aware of the impact dementia can have on visual and spatial awareness and how to support their loved ones by making changes in the home.

2. Fidget Blanket Making Workshop – led by artist Charlotte Gormley 15 Places.  Beginning 2pm in the Spin Studio

We often have calls from carers about fidget blankets which can be expensive to buy. A fidget blanket is a lap sized quilt that provides sensory& tactile stimulation for restless hands.
Carers have noted how essential these blankets can be for loved ones during respite or hospital stays. This is a simple way of making more personalised fidget blankets and carers will be encouraged to bring
materials and small objects that may have significance to their loved ones whom they are making this for.

All places must be booked through the DEEDS team by either emailing Sinead on
sinead@olt.ie or by phoning the centre on 028 71 373870.
