3   Defibrillators for Sport Initiative

Sports clubs and organisations from across Northern Ireland are being invited to apply for free automated external defibrillator (AED) devices as Sport Northern Ireland re-opens the Defibrillators for Sport initiative.

Originally launched by Sport NI and the Department for Communities in July 2016, the initiative has so far seen over 1,000 AEDs allocated to sports clubs across Northern Ireland.

Who Can Apply

Sports clubs and organisations are welcome to apply. Even if the club / organisation already possesses a defibrillator, you may be eligible to receive a new AED device through this initiative.

The Community Resuscitation Strategy has identified the need to increase provision of AEDs in community settings and this survey will gauge the requirement from a sporting perspective. If your club / organisation already has an AED, devices obtained prior to 2008 should be considered obsolete and measures should be taken to replace such equipment. Accordingly, clubs with older devices will be eligible to apply for a new AED.

Free Defibrillator Awareness Training will also be offered to all successful clubs / organisations.

When to Apply

Applications will re-open on Monday 15th January at 12noon and close on Monday 5th February at 12noon.
You can access the application form using the link below.

http://www.sportni.net/get-active/defibrillators-for-sport-initiative/

Please note that devices are limited and will be distributed on a first come first basis.

For further information on Defibrillators for Sport please contact Chris Craig (chriscraig@sportni.net, Tel: 0290 02890 383859)

 Imperialism on Trial

Date: 30th January 2018

Location: Waterside Theatre

Cost: £6.00

Time: Doors opening at 6.30pm for 7.00pm

The Realpolitik - Derry, welcomes everyone to this exceptional night of alternative global politics. All the guest speakers offer a unique insight into countries and regions of the world, who have recently
been victims of Western interventions; or, who are currently under threat of war and destablisation. They will also provide a detailed analysis of imperialism, neoliberalism and neo-colonialism; along with an extensive critique of the role of mainstream media.

Over the last sixteen years we have seen wars (dressed up as humanitarian interventions) destroy entire countries and destablise whole regions; creating hundreds of thousands of deaths; and a horrific refugee crisis. We live in very dangerous times and the prospect of any more of these wars, particularly with Iran or North Korea, has the real potential of turning into a world war.

When we examine the greatest threats to humanity- all roads lead back to the US Empire. These issues are not the interests of one community more than the other - A world war affects us all.

For the Prosecution (Speakers):

  • Eva Bartlett, Investigative Journalist
  • Dr Marcus Papadopoulos, Editor Politics First
  • Neil Clark, Journalist, Author, Broadcaster
  • Peter Ford, Former UK Ambassador to Syria
  • Professor Piers Robinson, Sheffield University
  • Vanessa Beely, Investigative Journalist
  • Hosted by Gregory Sharkey
