Community Leaders trip to Boston 2008
This is an opportunity coming up for people who are either working or involved on a voluntary capacity with Community Organisations to travel (all expenses paid to Boston, U.S.A) for app 3 weeks. It is aimed at looking at Community issues e.g. poor housing, gang violence, drug/alcohol abuse etc etc and bring knowledge back to our Communities on how for example the Americans are dealing with these issues.
The Community Leaders will also mentor the 18 participants on the Estates Management to Boston Wider Horizons Programme. The overseas phase will be in September, costs covered will include accommodation, insurance, travel, flights etc. For anyone working within a paid capacity they will need to clear the time off with employers. However in light to what these individuals will be bringing back to their local communities it is a small price to pay.
Programme 2008
Leaders Ø Six Leaders in Total Ø Currently working with a resident’s group/community association in a paid or voluntary capacity. They must be actively involved in work on the ground in leadership/supervisory/advisory role. The group must be based in and working with issues around ‘social housing’ needs Ø In a position to bring new ideas forward within their group/community
The Programme Ø Act as a mentor to the trainees during the pre departure phase particularly during residentials (2 residentials) Ø Opportunity to complete the ‘Working in the community’ Level 2 certificate Ø Able to contribute to and support discussions/learning during pre-departure phase Ø Spend 3 weeks shadowing a community based leader based in a ‘non profit’ voluntary organisation in Boston U.S.A. Ø Take part in other organised programme activities whilst in Boston.
Anyone interested should contact Diane Wilson at Tyrone Donegal Partnership immediately as I imagine the two remaining places will go very fast!! Diane can be contacted at 048 822 50962 or email d.wilson@tyronedonegalpartnership.org
