Have Your Say on Northern Ireland Health Reforms

You are invited to the Community Development and Health Networks Networking Event in NICVA, Belfast. The event is on Thursday March 13th from 9.30 1pm.

The following 3 workshops will be held at the event:

- Climate Change and Health

This workshop, hosted by Northern Ireland Environmental Link (NIEL), will explore the link between climate change and health. Focusing particularly on the impacts of changes in climate both locally and further a-field, and at both the direct and indirect impacts. Flooding, drought, expanding survival areas of diseases and parasites,  food shortages and increasing costs of food, increasing diseases aggravated by heat, even increasing levels of food poisoning; all are likely consequences of climate change which will impact upon us in NI.  Are we ready to deal with these?  What should we be doing now to ensure we can adapt?

- The New Volunteering Strategy

This workshop will be hosted jointly by the Department for Social Development (DSD) and the Volunteer Development Agency (VDA). They will give a background to the new volunteering strategy and give you an opportunity to consider the issues facing today's volunteers and how volunteering might be developed in the future.

- Lobbying: How to get your message across

This workshop hosted by Brian Cavanagh from Clifden Consultancy in Scotland will present an opportunity for attendees to see the best ways to get their communities issues on the political agenda.  He will give an insight into the most proactive way to approach politicians and talk from his own experience, as a politician, about how he has engaged and built trust with communities. There will be plenty of discussion time allocated to chat about examples, ask Brian questions and get handy tips!

In addition to the workshops there will be exhibition stands to view, networking opportunities and a chance to take part in a fun table quiz. Register with kathymartin@cdhn.org or phone (028 3026 4606) ASAP. The event and lunch are FREE and there is exhibition room available.
