Consultation on Proposed Changes to Health & Social Care Structures in NI

1.30 - 4pm, Monday 7th April 2008

St. Columb's Park House, Derry~Londonderry

Health & Social Care in Northern Ireland seems to have been going through a constant change process for the last few years and we now find ourselves facing a new set of reform proposals announced by DHSSPS Minister, Michael McGimpsey, earlier this year.

The weeks since the proposals were released have seen further movement on the reform of local government with the eleven-council model now looking the likely goal for 2011, and the bite is already beginning to be felt on the 3% annual efficiency savings required of all departments as per the Comprehensive Spending Review.  There is already concern that the easiest way to obtain such "cuts" is to reduce the support given to services provided by community & voluntary sector groups.  At a time when, as in the case of Neighbourhood Renewal, ensuring departmental responsibility for services fitting in to their remit is proving a difficult knot to unravel, the proposed changes take on greater significance.

For details of the event and the main elements of the proposals and/or vist: http://www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/index/hss/rpa-home.htm for further details.

To book your place at this important event (the only one to be held in the North-West), please contact the Network - email: info@nwcn.org or tel: (028) 7127 9090. (Alternatively, contact Cathy Breslin at NICVA - tel: (028) 90 877777 or email: cathy.breslin@nicva.org).

Thursday 24th – Friday 25th April 2008

You are cordially invited to the above event organized by The Workers’ Educational Association as part of The Creating Change Programme

One of the biggest challenges facing the Community and Voluntary Sector is how to influence decision making and affect real change.  With the Northern Ireland Assembly now running full steam ahead, opportunities abound for groups and individuals to ‘have a say’

This event will give you the opportunity to learn and share skills and expertise in how government works, locally and regionally – Who are the key players?  What are the key structures?  Who do I contact and how?  There will be inputs from a range of stakeholders including political lobbyists and campaigners Stratagem, Blas voice consultancy and local MLA’s and a golden opportunity for you to ask those ‘burning questions’ you’ve always wanted to ask!

Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) will play a significant role in the conference by way of facilitating training workshops aimed at providing you with information and skills in getting to know your NI Assembly and how to lobby effectively.  These practical workshops will demystify the world of government and policy and assist you in developing skills and confidence

The event will run from the morning of Thursday 24th and end with lunch on Friday 25thand there is no charge; however places are limited, so please complete the attached booking form today to reserve your place.  A detailed conference schedule will follow in due course.

Hidden in our ordinary everyday behaviour lays our body language, let Echo Echo help you turn it into the extra-ordinary!

Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company will be teaching a weekend workshop in 'Instantaneous Composition' on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May at their studio in The Waterside Theatre.

Instantaneous Composition is a way of playing, making choices within an instant and giving permission for the dance to manifest rather than taking control of the invention of a dance. It gets even more remarkable and exciting when dancing in a group - all composing and inventing at the same time – creating a multitude of potential choice and outcome.

This 2-day workshop is open to all ages and abilities and costs just £40 or £20 concession. Echo Echo’s previous weekend workshop was filled to capacity so if you are interested in taking part, you are encouraged to book your place early.
