Job Opportunities in Holywell Trust
North West Memorials Project The Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to award a grant to the above project, which allows us to employ two part-time workers for one year.
Part-Time Researcher 17.5 hours per week Salary £12,170 gross (one year contract)
Researcher will: 1. Make available to the North West Community the stories behind the establishment of each of the war memorials. 2. Explore and recount in depth the stories of at least twenty families whose names are on World War 1 war memorials in the North West. 3. Identify and explore the stories behind the various World War 1 memorials in the North West. 4. Support, develop and produce 2 quality accessible community publications arising from and reflecting the findings on 1 and 2 above. 5. Develop a website of the World War 1 war memorials as an accessible tool for the wider community and update website as the research evolves. 6. Keep all records in good order.
Researcher must demonstrate: · Degree in History and/or related subject. · Evidence of previous historical research. · Evidence of interest in World War 1 history. · Willingness and ability to work in a team. · Commitment to working with all sides of the community.

Workshop Facilitator will: 1. Explore and develop educational material on the stories of at lease twenty families whose names are on World War 1 memorial in the North West. 2. Support, develop and produce 2 quality accessible community publications arising from and reflecting the findings in 1 and 2 above. 3. Facilitate workshops and encourage community engagement for both of the areas of research. 4. Design, develop and present education workshops for schools and community. 5. Design produce and distribute education materials, which will illustrate our varied cultural, religious and political backgrounds, enhance an awareness, acceptance and celebration of our diversity and portray our shared history. 6. Keep all records in good order. 7. Keep records of meetings of steering/advisory groups.
Workshop Facilitator must demonstrate: · Degree in Facilitation Skills or equivalent. · Evidence of at least two years facilitation experience. · Evidence of innovative approaches used in educational settings. · Willingness and ability to work in a team. · Commitment to working with all sides of the community.

Invitation to “Nowhere Man” – Men’s Health Seminar
The Young Men's Unit (YouthAction), Men's Action Network and The Men's Project (Parents Advice Centre) are pleased to invite you to apply for a place on their forthcoming men's health seminar titled: "Nowhere Man". This event is being hosted by William Hay MLA (Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly) and Pat Ramsay MLA, and will take place on Wednesday 10th September 2008; begin with registration / refreshments at 9.00am and finish with lunch served at 1.00pm; be held in the Long Gallery of Parliament Buildings at Stormont, Belfast. This free event (supported by funding from the Gender and Sexual Orientation Equality Unit within OFMDFM) will highlight key men's health issues / needs within Northern Ireland, and will identify actions to address these difficulties. It will be of special interest to anyone who has responsibility for developing health and well-being policies/strategies/services; researchers with an interest in men's health or masculinities; "equality leads" in a range of government departments; experienced men's work practitioners. This seminar will be addressed by a range of leading British and Irish experts - drawn from the fields of research, practice, academia and policy-influencing - and will provide an opportunity for participants to hear about ...the context of men's health; the relationship between masculinity and health-seeking behaviour; the most recent research evidence and statistics; how men's health in Northern Ireland compares to other countries; the rationale for, and scope of, the Men's Health Strategy in the Republic of Ireland; the Vienna Declaration on Men's Health; local work to support men's health and well-being. Keynote addresses will be provided by Prof Ian Banks, Dr Steve Robertson, Dr Ken Harland, Dr Noel Richardson, Michael Lynch. We also hope to have a Ministerial address and an input from the Gender and Sexual Orientation Equality Unit within OFMDFM. There will be a maximum of 60 free places available at this event, therefore, in the first instance, delegate places will be allocated as a one-per-organisation/workplace basis to ensure the attendance of a diverse range of bodies. However, a waiting list will also be compiled for the applications received after all the places have been reserved and for groups who wish to book a second place. DIVERT Drug and Alcohol Education Project is launching a six week fun packed summer programme with activities and events for children and young people as well as parents & carers. Activities include a football tournament and various day trips to include Belfast Zoo and Letterkenny Leisure Centre. “Time out Tuesday” 29 July 2008, is a day of fun with organised play sessions & face painting for kids, DJ training & football skills for young males and pampering for young females. On offer for adults is hair & beauty, massage, reflexology, angel card readings, acupuncture, Reike and much more. The programme will conclude with an intergenerational pool competition and a family residential. In addition to our current service users the project is calling on any individual experiencing difficulty as a result of their own or another’s use of alcohol or drugs to give us a call and become more familiar with the remainder of the programme. Barefoot Zambia – Theatre Tour
This summer an exciting and innovative group from Zambia is coming to take the people of Derry by storm and we want YOU to be involved. Barefeet is a creative arts and performance project staged, rehearsed and presented mainly by children who live on, or formerly on, the streets of Lusaka, Zambia. Barefeet Theatre Company is coming to Ireland this summer to perform, raise awareness and engage with people here. Barefeet will be running workshops in Derry on Tuesday 19th August 9am – Workshop one – Children aged 10 – 14 11am – Workshop Two – Young people aged 14 – 18 1pm – Workshop Three – Young people with special needs 3pm – Workshop Four – Young people and adults 18+ Advance booking is advisable and we would request that you would make a donation for participation in the workshop as Barefeet are dependant on fundraising. The Derry 1968 Civil Rights Commemoration Committee, affiliated to a network of other committees in the North and elsewhere, meets every Thursday evening at 8 pm. In the 60s people from all parts of the city would dance in the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall, better known as the Mem. Do Ye Mind The Mem? Will feature "The Signetts", (Jack Molloy, Trevor Keys, Frank Robinson, and Roy Arbuckle) one of the bands that played there in those glory days. The members of the Signetts will bring some of their current music collaborators, so you'll hear great music from Frank and Percy Robinson, The Derry Jazz Quartet, Trevor Keys Band and the Roy Arbuckle Band It promises to be a night to reMEMber nothing but good music, a wee dance, maybe a drink or two and a reminisce about the good times and a chance to meet people you may not have seen for years. Foyle Valley Railway Museum open for business
Foyle Valley Railway Museum has opened its doors for the summer season, providing locals and visitors alike with an opportunity to explore the rich railway history of the city. Visitors will be transported back to an era when rail transport was at its height, giving them an insight into the different railway companies which once operated out of the city. In addition to the rail exhibition several new facilities have been added for the enjoyment of visitors. A small coffee shop will be opening early August, and a new play space for young children has been created that will appeal to young families in particular. In addition to the existing displays an exciting new exhibition from the National Museum Ireland, featuring a selection of 20th century travel and tourism posters will open on Saturday 2 August '08 at the museum. The exhibition is entitled 'Come Back to Erin' and will run until the end of September 2008. This exhibition features strikingly colourful posters designed by world famous artists such as Paul Henry and the distinctive images will be a trip down memory lane for many people.
