Regional Intergenerational Small Grants Scheme
Intergenerational practice aims to promote better understanding and respect between generations by bringing people together to participate in mutually beneficial and enjoyable activities building on the positive resources that younger and older people have to offer. Intergenerational practice can also fit in with many areas of work such as community development, education, community safety, health and well being, volunteering and is a good tool in the building of active communities.

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day of remembrance for the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. Every year on 27 January we pause to reflect on what can happen when racism and prejudice are left unchecked. This year's theme is "The Legacy of Hope". We join millions of others around the world to remember that the horrific crimes of the past are neither forgotten nor repeated. To mark this day Derry City Council's Heritage & Museum Service will screen a special showing of the film "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" in the Tower Museum on Saturday 30th January at 2.30 pm. There will be a brief introduction to the film by Roberta Bacic, well known human rights researcher, curator and activist. This film has a 12 rating. Admission to the film is free. Come early to avoid disappointment. For further information Telephone: 028 7137 2411 or Email: museum@derrycity.gov.uk |

Trócaire Appeals for support for its Haiti Earthquake Appeal
Trócaire's response is also introducing cash-for-work schemes to clear the debris and stimulate the local economy. They are distributing 1500 tonnes of food recently arrived in Haiti, and local partners run over 200 hospitals and medical centres in the country. They have already equipped and staffed two operating theatres at one of the city hospitals, which reopened this week. Trócaire Director Justin Kilcullen said: “Experience has taught us that in crisis situations such as this, the weaker voices in society, already vulnerable to abuse, become more so – including women, children, the elderly and the infirm. “We need to think beyond simply meeting basic needs – food will not keep communities safe from abuse and water will not protect them from violence. “
To donate to
Trocaire's appeal call 0800 912 1200 (NI) or 1850 408 408 (RoI) or log on
to www.trocaire.org 100% of all
donations to Trócaire for the Haiti earthquake will
be spent directly on the response to this disaster. |
