Rural Derry urged to attend DARD briefing
People working and living in rural areas of Derry are being urged to attend an event in Eglinton this week which could help shape how their communities are treated by government in years to come.
The appeal was made by local Sinn Féin Martina Anderson who is bringing officials from the Agriculture department to Derry on Thursday.
“The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Michelle Gildernew is currently developing a rural white paper – the first time such an initiative has ever been taken in the North,” Ms. Anderson commented.
“The Rural White Paper provides a real opportunity to consider and address the needs of our rural communities across government and to help maximise the contribution made by rural areas to the region as a whole.
“The Minister has already indicated her willingness to working with local stakeholders in order to address the challenges facing rural areas and in identifying measures we can take to help ensure the future sustainability for our rural communities.
“This is an excellent opportunity for people in rural areas of Derry to make their needs known and help shape how their communities are governed in the future. All are welcome to attend and I am encouraging as many people as possible to come along.”
The meeting will take place at 11am on Thursday, November 19 in the Eglinton Community Hall, 40 Main Street, Eglinton, BT47 3AD.

Impact of the Conflict on the Lifford/Strabane Area – Research Project
Holywell Consultancy has been appointed by Donegal County Council, in partnership with Strabane District Council, to facilitate a process of engagement to assess the impact of the Conflict on the Strabane/Lifford area. This process involves a range of engagement techniques – focus groups, interviews, research analysis and this questionnaire.
The end result of the engagement with the local community, and other research elements, will be a report that will be used in partnership by Donegal County Council and Strabane District Council to attract much needed resources to the local area.
Holywell Consultancy is acutely aware that the Conflict of the last 40 years has impacted to some extent on us all. This process is an effort to gauge the impact that the Conflict has had on the areas of Strabane and Lifford and to identify opportunities for social, economic and physical regeneration which facilitates cross border and cross community reconciliation. The research project is being supported by the PEACE III programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the Donegal CDB Peace and Reconciliation Partnership.
Anyone who is interested can have their say in a number of ways. The most straightforward is to complete an online questionnaire available through the websites of both Councils (www.donegalcoco.ie and www.strabanedc.com) and Holywell Consultancy – http://www.holywellconsultancy.com/HolywellConsultancy/surveys.html
In addition, a number of focus group sessions which are open to all interested parties to attend, will be held over the next few weeks. This will be a chance for people to share their experiences and opinions with the Holywell Consultancy team. The events will take place as follows:
All information received through this process will be treated in confidence. In the report that will be compiled, no comments or information will be directly attributed to any individual or organisation. One survey respondent, chosen at random, will receive the prize of £100 to spend on treatments at the Wellbeing Health & Beauty Spa, Sion Mills.
If you have any questions or queries about this process, please do not hesitate to contact Holywell Consutlancy on 028 (048 from Republic of Ireland) 7126 7997, or by email info@holywellconsultancy.com.

The European Emergency Number 112 is used to contact emergency services free of charge all over the EU. However it is not currently accessible to the majority of disabled people.
Now this is set to change with the start of REACH112, a european wide initiative involving France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and the UK. The project will introduce improved communication solutions for disabled people, allowing them direct access to emergency services.
Users will also be able to call each other in video, voice and text via the Internet and across national boundaries. It will also allow sign language users to communicate through remote interpreting services, and via other relay services, using text to talk to voice users.
