Message from Peace & Reconciliation Group

A group of Community Workers involved at the interfaces of Irish Street / Top of the Hill; Bishop Street / Fountain; Curryneirn / Tullyally have expressed their concern about the number of sectarian incidents taking place at the respective interfaces.

While it is acknowledged that there has been a significant reduction in these incidents during the summer break there is potential for these incidents to increase.  We need the support of all the people in the respective communities to make sure we can put a stop to sectarian incidents once and for all.  We are asking all parents to be responsible and make sure you know where your children are.  Please encourage your children to pay attention to the health hazards around the building and burning of bonfires and ask them to read the attached pamphlet outlining the rules and regulations in relation to bonfires.  We would also ask you to tell them of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's responsibility in ensuring public safety, whether relating directly to bonfires or parades.  See the attached advice pamphlet with information from various bodies such as PSNI and NI Fire Service.  We are hoping that through your assistance we can have an enjoyable summer; free of sectarian incidents and that we all can live in peace.

For you – Donovan

Introducing a new book by Brendan McKeever about Donovan.  At the very young age of twenty Donovan McKeever passed away.  This is the story of his life; a life lived to the full.  It is about people he met and the lives he touched along the way.  But it is also about Donovan, his personality, his sense of humour, his interests and his family life.  On 1 December 2006 a chapter closed in his life; this book, in memory of him, is yet another chapter.  The book is due out at the end of July and will be on sale at venues to be finalised in time for publication.  All net proceeds (after print costs) will be donated to NI Children's Hospice. The book cost has been kept low at £5, although there will be an additional postage cost for those wishing to have it delivered.  We will give you an update when all is finalised.
