The David Ervine Foundation

The David Ervine Foundation was established as an independent charitable Fund in celebration of the life and aspirations of David Ervine.

The Fund has been set up as an Advised Fund within the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland. As such it will be directed by the Board of Trustees of the David Ervine Foundation while benefiting from the 30 years of experience that the Community Foundation has in the management of charitable funds. This will ensure that the donors to the David Ervine Foundation can benefit from all the tax advantages of charitable giving. It will also enable the David Ervine Foundation to draw on the extensive grant-making experience of the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland. The David Ervine Foundation will operate a named Bank Account within the Community Foundation, where all donations will be lodged and recorded.

Society for the Assistance of Ladies in Reduced Circumstances

The Society's trustees have decided that although their principal charitable activity will remain the making of grants to individual women, in 2009 they will make £50,000 available for grants to other organisations.

Applications will be considered for funding towards projects which represent the complete work of a small organisation, or a particular undertaking by a larger one.

The Trustees will only consider applications for support for projects which are for the exclusive benefit of women in financial need. The Trustees have decided to make grants to other organisations in order to broaden the scope of their work. Priority will be given to smaller projects where it can be demonstrated that the Society's grant will make a real difference.

Applications must be for projects that are for the exclusive benefit of women in financial need. Priority will be given to support work where the grant will make a significance difference. Please bear in mind that the Society is only offering a total of £50,000.

The Society assists women domiciled and habitually resident in the United Kingdom who are living alone in their own home (either owned or rented) and in genuine financial need, irrespective of age or social status. They generally assist women who are not eligible for help from any other trade, professional or Service benevolent fund. However, contributions may be made towards expensive items in conjunction with other charities.

All beneficiaries are receiving means-tested benefits of some kind. In cases where income is above our normal limits for regular assistance, a single grant for a specific essential item may be appropriate.

At present they consider women for regular assistance where they have savings of less than £8,000. Where we assist with a single grant the capital limit is £1,000 (after the applicant's contribution towards the cost of the item). These criteria are subject to periodic review by the Trustees.

For an informal discussion please telephone the society - the helpline is open Monday - Friday 9.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m. or complete the enquiry form and they will call you. PLEASE NOTE THAT AT THE PRESENT TIME IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DOWNLOAD AN APPLICATION FORM OR APPLY ON LINE.

Deadline Date – 26 March 2010

Young People & Policing Video Workshop

Just a reminder that there are still some places left for the Policing Video Workshop this Saturday, 6 February between 11am and 4pm at St. Columb's Park House.  Public Achievement in Belfast have been commissioned by the Northern Ireland Policing Board to gather the views of young people on policing and they will be in the North West on Saturday looking for your views.

We are looking for between 20 and 25 young people from different clubs and organisations that would be willing to share their views and opinions on policing irrespective of their background or political beliefs.

The format for the day is discussion/debate (agree/disagree format) between 11 and 1, lunch between 1 and 2 (approx) and then a question & answer session in the afternoon between 2 and 3pm before discussion with four different members of the District Policing Partnership between 3 and 4pm.  We are also hoping that Martina Anderson will be in attendance although this is subject to confirmation.

As the question and answer session is being videoed participants would obviously have to be prepared to speak in front of a camera but hopefully after some discussion in the morning they will feel comfortable in front of the camera by the afternoon.

Irrespective of young people's views we are keen to capture their opinions and offer a reflection of young people's views in the
North West.  This presents a real opportunity for young people to not only express their views but to question members of the DPP on matters relating to policing here in the North West

We are keen that no places are left unfilled so if you interested in booking any of the remaining space please contact Fergal at thekingisalive@hotmail.com or on 079 4459 5864.
