Money Available for Youth Led Community Projects

YouthBank is a UK-wide initiative in grant-aiding positive social action by groups of young people. Foyle YouthBank is a grant-making committee of young people co-ordinated by St. Columb's Park House in partnership with the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

St. Columb's Park House and the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland provide support and training to Foyle YouthBank, enabling them to decide how to allocate funds to local projects run by young people within the Derry City Council area. Grants given by YouthBank are usually between £50 - £500. Over the last five years, YouthBank has funded projects dealing with suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, mental and sexual health, and homophobia.

Foyle YouthBank currently has money left to distribute and is inviting applications from people between 18 and 25 with plans for projects that could make a positive change in their communities.

The themes for this year are sexual health, teenage pregnancy and drugs and alcohol

If you are interested either in applying for a grant ring St. Columb's Park House on tel. 71343080 for further details.

Calculate your benefits in the comfort of your own home

A comprehensive new online benefit calculator for Northern Ireland has been launched by Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie.
The first of its kind, the online benefit calculator caters for people of all ages - including those with disabilities and those with caring responsibilities - allowing them to calculate the benefits to which they may be entitled.
The service – which can be found at www.nidirect.gov.uk/benefits-adviser is free of charge and will mean that customers can now estimate their own benefit entitlement with total anonymity, in the comfort of their own home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Previously customers would have had to either call into a Jobs and Benefits Office, or make a phone call to enquire about their benefit eligibility.
The new service will also cater for those without internet access as advice and support groups, as well as friends and relatives of those seeking benefits, will now be able to utilise the online service on the person’s behalf.
