Voyager Leadership Award

Do you know someone who is leading a charity, voluntary or community organisation and doing a fantastic job?

Perhaps you work in, are a trustee of, or volunteer in an organisation which is being lead by someone truly inspirational? Perhaps you have used the services of an organisation whose leader is making a real difference in your community?

Would you like to be able to publicly recognise the tremendous work that this individual does? Why not nominate them for a Voyager Leadership Award?

The Voyager Leadership Awards are the first ever Awards for Leaders of charity, voluntary or community organisation in Northern Ireland. There are 10 categories to choose from and from these 10 winners an overall Inspiring Leader of the Year will be selected.

It’s really easy to nominate, and nomination forms together with full guidelines and criteria for each category are available at www.awards.co3.bz.

Overall winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony on 4 February 2010 in the City Hotel, Derry.

Nominations close at 2pm on 6 November 2009 so don’t leave it too late to nominate.

Steps into Dialogue

-How will Local Communities be affected by the Devolution of Policing and Criminal Justice?

-How does the St. Andrew’s Agreement link into these changes.. in fact what IS in the St. Andrew’s Agreement?

Community Dialogue was successful in obtaining funding under the Special European Union PEACE III Programme to deliver a project entitled ‘Steps into Dialogue’.

As well as promoting a process of Dialogue, the project is also producing a series of leaflets and pamphlets on issues which are important to local communities here.

We are now launching the next two documents in this series. One is on the Devolution of Policing and Criminal Justice to Northern Ireland and the other explains the St. Andrews Agreement.

Community Dialogue hopes that these Aids for Dialogue will enable a more informed discussion around two very important issues which have a direct impact on our community.

The overall goal of the project is to use dialogue as a mechanism that allows people affected by the conflict to deal with and address their past and to begin to understand the views and past of others. Through this process, Community Dialogue hopes to ensure people can begin to move forward to a peaceful society together.

As well as launching these documents we also want to provide an opportunity for some dialogue around the key issues raised. We cordially invite you to take part - Sessions will take place at the following venues:

Farset International Belfast at 5.30pm on Monday 9th November

The Junction Derry/Londonderry at 1pm on Tuesday 10th November

Linen Green Moygashel Dungannon at 1pm on Wednesday 18th November.

Tea, coffee and sandwiches will be served at all 3 events.

If you are interested in attending, please complete the attached registration form and return to: admin@communitydialogue.org or by post to Community Dialogue, LINC Resource Centre,  218 York Street, Belfast BT15 1GY or telephone Jim or Maura for more details at 028 90 351450

Does your project need volunteers? Maybe DARD can help

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) is a keen supporter of Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) projects among its staff.  It is an opportunity for team building and networking, and to make a lasting and worthwhile contribution to the local voluntary sector.

Have you got a project DARD volunteers could help with? Projects that staff have been involved with previously include:

Turning an old portacabin into office space for the Foyle Cookie Company

Painting and decorating rooms in Foyle Women’s Aid

Preparing food and toy Christmas hampers for local charities

Restoration of ‘The Quiet Garden’ – a cross community walled garden at See House in County Londonderry.

Helping with the ‘Get Going’ gardening project at Leonard Cheshire Disability in Omagh

Benefits to you include getting a task completed or an activity undertaken, publicity within DARD, leading to raised awareness of the organisation, fundraising and effectiveness brought about by the donor organisation's skills, expertise and experience.

Please contact Kathryn Clarke for more information on 028 9052 4189 or email: kathryn.clarke@dardni.gov.uk
