Community Workers Co-operative - Donegal Network -Seminar & Project Launch
Wednesday 16th September – 10.00am to 3.30pm, Ramada Hotel, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal The Community Workers Co-operative has been funded under the Peace III Programme to deliver the ‘Harnessing Equality for Lasting Peace’ (HELP) Project. The project will work in Donegal and on a cross border basis in the North West to facilitate the creation of meaningful and lasting cross-community and intercultural dialogue. This dialogue will be facilitated through the expansion and development of Peace networks and by bringing forward the issues of people affected by racism and sectarianism through a range of policy structures. Additionally, HELP intends to work creatively with community and public sector organisations to adopt accepted community work standards which will promote equality and social justice principles. The aim is to aid peace building and reconciliation work in the region. HELP will also document and share the innovative actions and lessons arising out of the project which will seek to address and prevent any outbreak of violence into the future. Equality – the Roadmap to Peace & Development Seminar The recent crisis in national and global financial systems and the current model of development have resulted in a disastrous landscape for many individuals and families and for future generations. The most disadvantaged and marginalised groups in society are being required to bear the greatest share of cutbacks in public sector services. Community organisations which have been to the forefront in combating inequality, poverty, racism and discrimination have been deprived of the funding, developmental supports and infrastructure that are crucial to their work. This context is particularly relevant in the Border counties where it is affecting the work of building the capacity of groups and individuals to deal with the transition to peace and reconciliation. The objective of the Seminar Equality – the Roadmap to Peace and Development is to provide an opportunity to explore the context in which peace building and community work is currently operating. Keynote speaker: Niall Crowley
This is a free event but, as numbers are strictly limited, prior booking is required. For further information and booking form please contact: CWC Donegal Network, 2nd Floor, Riverfront House, Pearse Road Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, Tel: 00353 (0) 74 9128792 or e-mail angelaholohan@cwc.ie |

Folk Festival at Café Del Mondo
The distinctive acoustic sounds of some of the North's best known musicians will this weekend resonate through the streets of Derry as the city hosts the Foyle Folk Festival. Formerly known as Feile Folk, this year's Festival moves to a new venue - popular city centre bistro Cafe Del Mondo - and will see ten acts take to the stage on both Saturday and Sunday. Performers include among others The Little Hooks, Keith Harkin, The Mighty Stef, Roy Arbuckle and Declan McLaughlin. Festival organiser Philip Wallace, who will perform with both Here Comes The Landed Gentry and Ard Ri, said the festival was an important addition to Derry's vibrant music scene. “We are bringing some of the best acts from across the North to join with great local talent. Some of the performers will be well-known to music lovers in the city but the programme will also give the Derry public a chance to see some up and coming acts perform in the city. The festival has something for everyone and we are delighted SEEDS and Cafe Del Mondo have come on board," he said. Also set to perform at this weekend's two-day festival - part funded by Derry City Council - are Our Krypton Son, Kevin Nash, We Are Resistance and Conor Mason. Tickets priced at £10 per day, or £16 for both days, can be purchased now at Café Del Mondo or online at wegottickets.com For further information email: FESTIVAL @ CAFE |
