Violent Crime - Scoping Exercise
The North West Community Network has been asked for input from the community and voluntary sector regarding a forthcoming study on violent crime within the Derry City Council area. The Network would like to gather your thoughts and perspective on existing organisations that currently deliver services to reduce violent crime as well as identifying gaps in service provision, this could also include a measure of the levels of violent crime within the Derry City Council area with a thought to identifying the way forward for projects and initiatives that will work to reduce violent crime. Please email your full response back to the Network no later than Wednesday 24th September on info@nwcn.org. It is anticipated that your input will help to compile a profile of support services that will help to address violent crime in the Derry City Council area. |

Sessional Trainers Required by Aware Defeat Depression
Mood Matters is a depression awareness programme for young people developed and delivered by Aware Defeat Depression in second level schools and other youth settings. We are currently seeking to add to our panel of Sessional trainers for delivery in the North and West, Causeway and Enniskillen areas. This work requires enthusiastic individuals who can deliver multimedia presentations to groups of young people (and adults with responsibility for young people) in their own educational or other youth setting, incorporating knowledge and experience of depression in a format that young people will relate to. While individual styles are encouraged, successful applicants will be able to work within Aware Defeat Depression’s ethos and the parameters of the Mood Matters programme. Work will be allocated according to demand and in line with the sessional trainer’s availability and mutually agreed workload preferences. Being accepted on to the panel does not however guarantee work. Crucially, applicants will be educated to NVQ Level 111 or equivalent, be computer literate (especially PowerPoint and Word), have experience in working with young people and in delivering training, and have sufficient knowledge and understanding of depression and of the needs of sufferers, families and carers in order to provide support and information to individual young people, their teachers or parents. For further information or to learn how to apply, email patricia@aware-ni.org |

Local Cross-Community Youth Group REACH Across, are staging a Family Fun Day in St Columb’s Park on Saturday 27th September (1pm – 5pm). REACH Across organizes cross-community residentials, international youth exchanges, outdoor activities and training courses for young people from throughout the city and beyond. Like many community groups REACH Across is experiencing critical funding difficulties and therefore we hope that this event will enable our work with young people to continue. Events include an Adult Team Challenge which will include a bungee run, assault course, penalty kicks, sumo wrestling, rifle shoot, human football, high jump and tug o war. The entry fee for the Adult Team Challenge is a minimum donation of £50 per team and each team can have up to 10 members. We would also welcome drama groups, dance groups, musicians, clowns, TV character costumes etc from other youth and community groups. Wristbands for the Children’s Playground will cost £5 and this will enable children to repeatedly enjoy all activities on the playground except the Laser Tag shoot-out for which there will be a small fee. Other activities will include a fortune teller, fancy dress, karaoke contest, sponge attack, rickety wheel, water volleyball, drama performance, car boot sale and community group displays. For more information about entering a team, wristband sales, the car boot sale or organising a display, please contact Barney Mc Guigan at the REACH Across office on 028 71 280048 or e-mail: reach_across@hotmail.com. |
