Comic Relief Funding

Comic Relief accepts applications from the voluntary and community sector throughout the UK including: constituted voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises,

Co-operatives, faith organisations, and community interest companies.

Comic Relief receive many more applications than they are able to fund and usually only support work which fits our current priorities, so before you apply for funding, please read through all the Essential Information carefully.

Comic Relief usually makes grants for between one and three years and can give grants for running costs and capital costs.  There is no minimum or maximum grant in most of their programmes, but where there are limits, these are clearly stated in the programme guidelines. Their grants on average vary between £25,000 and £40,000 per year, and rarely exceed this upper limit.  Comic Relief is unlikely to make large grants to very small organisations.

The following programmes are open to applications and all have a closing date of Friday 24th July 2009.

Mental Health

Young People Experiencing Domestic and Sexual Abuse

International Grants

Refugees and Asylum Seeking Women

Sexually Exploited and Trafficked Young People

Young People and Alcohol

Young People with Mental Health Problems

Please see www.comicrelief.com for further details on all the above programmes or call 020 7820 5555 for further information.

EAGA Partnership Charitable Trust

The independent Eaga Partnership Charitable Trust (Eaga-PCT) is a grant–giving trust that currently supports projects and research in two main areas: the relief of fuel poverty and the promotion of energy efficiency; and vulnerable consumers – multiple needs and preferences.

The Trust gives priority to funding proposals that have the potential to inform or influence national perceptions and policies and have a wide geographic focus. A project that operates at a local level will only be considered for a grant if it: clearly demonstrates innovation; identifies the policy relevance of the project; has wide applicability; and has well developed and accurately costed evaluation and dissemination plans.

In 2005 and 2006 very few applications for EAGA were received from N.Ireland and no funding was provided.

The closing date is 28 August 2009.  Please contact: Dr Naomi Brown, Trust Administrator, 23 Macadam Gardens, Penrith, Cumbria, England CA11 9HS.

Play Seminar – Play for a Change

Derry City Council in partnership with Nature Play (Richter) is hosting a short Play Seminar in St Columbs Park and would welcome your attendance on Friday 24th July 2009, 10.00am – 3.00pm at St Columbs Park House.

Play is essential to the healthy development of children and young people – not just their physical development, but their social and cognitive development too.  Through play, children learn to share, to socially interact with others, learn to deal with conflict, start understanding others needs as well as learning to take responsibility for their own actions.

Please find a copy of the programme attached.  It is intended to accommodate up to 100 participants on a first come first served basis.  We would welcome confirmation of your attendance on 028 7136 5151 – ext 6816 or email: colin.kennedy@derrycity.gov.uk

The Young Fathers Project seeks new recruits

The Young Fathers Project, based at Shepherds View, is currently looking to recruit new young fathers for various programmes and initiatives.

The Young Fathers Project aims to provide support for young men aged from 14 - 25 years who are becoming a father or are already a father. This support could be anything from advocacy, mentoring, support through the family courts, awareness of being a good role model and parent, coping skills, accredited programmes, meditation between parents and grandparents, etc.

We have also set up a social economy project for young fathers who are currently unemployed and willing to gain experience and skills in painting / decorating, removals, joinery, gardening, etc. This project has been up and running for a few months now and is growing rapidly and needs more young fathers to come on board and develop it. We are also in the process of moving premises to Pump Street, which will develop the Young Fathers Project and centralise it.

If you know of any young fathers, any projects or services that we could link in with to develop the young fathers project and support any young men out there, please could you get in contact with the young fathers project on 028 7126 6115.

Do you know of a Community Venue suitable to Hire for Dance?

Dance Resource Base is the premier non-profit resource organisation for dance in Northern Ireland and works to link, serve and strengthen the sector by developing practical services and support to those involved in dance. Dance Resource Base also provides information to the general public about dance.  Dance Resource Base are in the initial stages of researching dance studios and other spaces suitable for dance practice within Northern Ireland.  We hope to gather information from all corners of the region and create an accessible database for members and visitors, including all the venues, halls and other spaces, suitable to host dance rehearsals, classes, workshops and even performances in Northern Ireland.
If you can assist with this research and know of a place suitable to hire for dance activity then please contact the Dance Resource Base Development Officer, Jennifer Thornton, at info@danceresourcebase.org.

Our Dance Artists are continuously searching for new places to work and this could be a great opportunity to raise the awareness of your community venue!
