One Small Step Grant Fund

The One Small Step grant fund encourages initiatives that stimulate people into action to build a peaceful future.  It is about spreading the message that we are all responsible for developing a peaceful society in Northern Ireland.  The Fund will support small local projects organized by individuals – these projects should encourage people into action.  The context is one of peace being an issue for each of us as individuals, for all

of our organizations and for our communities

Grants will range from £500 to £1,500.  Partnership funding is encouraged.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis by the Community Foundation.

The BigGive Match Funding Challenge

The BigGive is launching another match funding challenge, this time putting a record £3m up for grabs. Charities have until June 27 to apply to become one of 250 charities eligible to benefit from the match funding challenge, which will become active on December 7.
The website has run a number of popular match funding challenges in the past. In order to avoid the rush on the site during a £1m match fund offer last December, which saw the entire sum snapped up in 45 minutes, BigGive will this year release the money over five days in an attempt to deliver a fairer spread of matched money.  For more detailed information please see:

Tactility Factory for the Playhouse

As another week passes, another piece of fabulous art has been unveiled in the award winning The Playhouse, as part of it £4.6 million refurbishment.

Trish Belford (textiles) and Ruth Morrow (architecture) were delighted to win one of the integrated art awards for The Playhouse. Ruth stated: On our first walk about, amongst the demolition and building works, some of the original patterned elements were crying out to be recognized. Trish and I felt that the fanlight and fireplace motifs deserved recognition, and were inspired to work with these throughout the design of the folded frieze. The folding was important to catch the light, showing off the stitch work, and echoing Derry’s protective wall. This project has been a wonderful platform highlighting the integrity of the textiles in the concrete, one of the Girli Concrete trademarks. There is more than meets the eye, hidden patentable technologies have been developed that are not seen on the surface but hold the textiles in place.

Niall Mc Caughan, General Manager of The Playhouse stated: “We have been delighted with the artwork produced by Trish and Ruth. They have been able to take much of the unusual and unique architecture around our buildings, and incorporate these elements into a visually stunning piece, above our famous wooden cobbles at our front entrance.  They have been able to do this through a combined textile and concrete piece, which has created a lot of interest since it was installed.  This artwork is one of several commissioned major pieces under the “Percentage for Art” programme kindly funded by the Arts Council of N.Ireland. Work by artist Paula Thompson was unveiled a few weeks ago, and over the next few months, several more installations will be unveiled, leading up to the official opening in September of this year.”
