DCC Main Grant Aid Programme 2010/11
The Main Grant is now open and you can apply online at www.derrycity.gov.uk This programme funding is aimed at groups in the local Community and Voluntary Sector and offers up to £5000 for projects, which benefit people in Derry City Council Area. Groups will have until Friday, 9th October 2009 to submit a completed application form, but to assist them to better understand the process, Council Officers will be available at two locations in the City on Tuesday, 15th and Thursday, 17th September 2009. Please note that the information sessions are optional - all relevant groups are still welcome to apply for main grant aid whether or not they attend an information session.

The deadline for applications to this call has been extended to 5.00pm on Friday, 30 October 2009(previously advertised as 5.00pm on Wednesday, 30 September 2009). Applications are invited from operations which will deliver sustainable social and economic improvements in rural areas through strategic cross-border actions. Operations are expected to specifically target the regeneration of disadvantaged rural areas within the eligible region.

Building Change Trust - Community Consultation

NWCN invites those with an interest in helping shape the future landscape for the Community & voluntary sector in NI to this event. Prompt registration is required as interest is expected to be high and places are limited. The event will be of particular interest to individuals/organisations with elements of strategic planning as part of their remit. There has been limited detail thus far on the Building Change Trust – in essence it aims to facilitate the NI Community & Voluntary sector in preparing for and negotiating what is a radically changing environment in the face of factors known and experienced by many of us. Please see the attached flyer for information on the Building Change Trust and the context for this NW Consultation – this has been organised to provide the Community & Voluntary sector in the North-West with the opportunity to influence and inform the objectives and priorities of the Trust in what is a ten-year period of operation. This invitation to attend this workshop is your opportunity to ensure your participation in a strategically important discussion. Charities Act (NI) 2008 – Are You Ready?
We are delighted to announce that Tom McGrath, the recently appointed Chief Charity Commissioner for Northern Ireland will give the opening address at two important conferences to be held in Belfast and Derry. The conferences have been organised jointly by Cleaver Fulton Rankin, Moore Stephens Chartered Accountants and Northern Bank. These free events will examine the impact of the Charities Act (NI) 2008 on organisational procedures and practices and will be of interest to Trustees, Chief Executives and Directors of Finance of charitable sector organisations.

Friday 18th September 2009, 12.30pm Gasyard Centre
Dove House Community Trust – Youthfirst Project in partnership with Newbuildings Community Association and Derry Travellers Support Group are launching an exciting new youth project, PATHS, (Positive Alternatives to Hatred and Sectarianism). The PATHS project is an innovative programme for young people aged 10-25 from the Bogside and Brandywell Community, Newbuildings and the Travelling Community in the Ballyarnett area of Greater Shantallow. The aim of the programme is to explore the motivation for sectarian/racist type behaviours occurring in these communities and to provide young people with positive alternatives to hatred and sectarianism. The project also aims to help and support young people from different religious/ethnic backgrounds create a peaceful and stable society in which they can reach a place of mutual understanding and respect. The project will be delivered simultaneously in the three geographic communities. It will be delivered using three methodologies - peer mentoring, group work sessions and survival training. The launch of the project will take place on Friday 18th September 2009 in the Gasyard Centre at 12.30 p.m. It is an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of this exciting new project and to raise awareness of the PATHS project. North West Carnival Initiative Invitation
Did you see last year’s Halloween Carnival Parade? Would you like to be involved in this year’s Halloween Carnival Parade? I would like to invite you to take part in the North West Carnival Initiative Project. The purpose of the Project is to produce creative carnival based programmes through artistic excellence, community training, cultural collaboration and civic celebration. It is our ambition to provide projects that beneficially engage the imagination of a broad range of audience from all sections of the community. The Project seeks to support and compliment current events in the City’s cultural calendar, key events include St Patrick’s Day Parade, Halloween and various Summer Events throughout the City.
We are now calling on interested Community Groups, Schools, Youth Groups, Students, individuals and Artists to get involved in this year’s Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival Parade. We are offering free Carnival skills workshops to interested Community Groups; workshops could include mask making, dance, performance, Costume design and making, fabric painting and carnival prop building to create your own pageant. These workshops will take place in your own community centre or local venue and will be facilitated by fully skilled Carnival Art Facilitators who will teach you new skills and prepare you for the wonderful finale parade. The NW Carnival Initiative covers all costs e.g. workshops, costumes, travel to & from the Event. The central objective in all our activity is to promote and encourage participation in quality, carnival based activity that is inclusive to all communities within the North West area.

The Cresco Trust Stravaganza Summer School
The Cresco Trust Stravaganza Summer School in partnership with the University of Ulster will be held September 18th – September 23rd 2009 supported by The National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Stravaganza delivers an inclusive arts programme in which participants with and without disabilities engage in a process of reciprocal learning working collaboratively in experimental music, dance theatre and multimedia. The final original works are shown in mainstream venues and events, enabling participants to be seen, heard, valued and recognised by a wider audience, develop skills become advocates, change perceptions, celebrate diversity, promote debate and influence policy.
Stravaganza Summer School and Performance for adults 18 and upwards Three days of Workshops will take place in the School of Creative Arts. Two days of Rehearsals followed by the Performance Dreamscape at the Waterside Theatre at 7.30pm on Tuesday September 22nd Residential Accommodation is at the 4 star Tower Hotel for 5 nights. Impromptu music sessions and social happenings contribute to the unique and eclectic experience that is the Stravaganza Summer School. The week will include a session on the Bill of Rights enabling all participants to contribute to the Stravaganza submission to the NI Human Rights Commission The session is supported by the Community Foundation for N. Ireland
Jaci Wilde of Stravaganza is delighted that Colm Gallagher Co Creative Director of the world renowned AMICI Dance Theatre will be Creative Director and Choreographer for Stravaganza Summer School and Performance. Brendan McCloskey is Musical Director and the Summer School will bring to fruition original music and songs composed during an Autumn Residential and Spring Programme. Colleenrose McCabe is Assistant Musical Director. Sean McDermott and Rachel McClure are the Audio Visual Team. Gabriel Makamanzi and Vincente Zirrit add world music and rhythms.
Stravaganza Production Company has a strong Creative Team and Support Staff Including a Nurse. Students from the School of Creative Arts make a valuable contribution to the Ensemble and Production as a whole. Stravaganza are offering a unique opportunity to local people with and without disabilities, with experience or to gain experience in dance, drama, music, multimedia, film or photography who would benefit from joining us on a daily basis for the duration of the project. Milford YMCA seeks Children’s Worker (p/t)
The post-holder is responsible for supporting the planning, delivery and evaluation of the children’s programme element of the YMCA’s Parents and Kids Together Programme (PAKT) in Cobh YMCA. PAKT is an integrated and holistic programme aimed at supporting families. The successful candidate will: Have some formal training in children’s/youth work; Have at least 1 year’s experience of face to face work with children or young people in areas such as arts/crafts, drama, sports, cooking, outdoor education etc; Possess good inter-personal and group work skills; and have experience of planning and facilitating children’s programmes. This will be a part-time position, 7 hours per week during term time. A fixed term contract to 31 Dec 2009 will be offered but may be renewed subject to funding being available in 2010. Normal working hours will involve 1 full day per week. The pay will be 16.60 per hour.
