Consultation on the Volunteering Strategy for Northern Ireland
The Department for Social Development launched the consultation on the Volunteering Strategy for Northern Ireland on 2 July. The consultation document sets out the Department's view about how volunteering can be encouraged and strengthened over the next five years. The consultation document contains over 40 proposals which may shape the final Volunteering Strategy.
The main issues addressed in the consultation are: How can we improve the experience volunteers have? How can we ensure the right services are in place to support volunteering? How can we recognise the importance of volunteering? How can we enhance diversity and accessibility in volunteering?
The Department wants to hear your views as part of this consultation to help ensure that the strategy meets the needs of volunteers and the organisations which involve them. You can see a full version of the consultation document and access the document in different formats at www.dsdni.gov.uk/consultations-join-in-get-involved.htm Public
consultation events will be taking place during September and details for
North West are shown below. The consultation will close on 9

Lawrence McBride, Trócaire’s newly appointed officer for the North West said: “This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from one of Trócaire’s most widely respected partners operating within the Gaza Strip- to hear a first-hand account of the recent bombardment of the Strip and how the lives of the millions of innocent people there have been affected.” Accompanying the talk will be a special screening of The Stolen Child, a documentary by Donegal’s own Nial O’Sullivan, highlighting the plight of child prisoners in Palestine.
