St Stephen's Green Trust - General Grant Scheme 2009 Priorities

St Stephen's Green Trust is a grant-giving organisation which supports organisations working in Ireland (North & South) to improve the lives of people who are affected by poverty / disadvantage and social exclusion.
Programme Areas 2009: homelessness, prisoners / ex-prisoners and Travellers.
The Trust accepts applications from voluntary or community organisations, with a CHY or XR (NI) number. Grants levels are generally from 1,000 to 12,000. In 2008 the average grant was 5,200. In 2009, the Trust is only inviting applications from organisations with annual income below 500,000.

Emsee Fairbairn Foundation - New Guidelines for Main Fund

 

Within the four primary areas of interest - the cultural life of the UK, education and learning, the natural environment and enabling disadvantaged people to participate more fully in society.

They will prioritise work that:
- Addresses a signi\u-1279 ?cant gap in provision
- Develops or strengthens good practice
- Challenges convention or takes a risk in order to address a dif\u-1279 ?cult issue
- Tests out new ideas or practices
- Takes an enterprising approach to achieving its aims
- Sets out to in\u-1278 ?uence policy or change behaviour more widely
(and ideally addresses more than one of these priorities).

Because of the high level of applications the programme receives they have introduced a two stage application process for their Main Fund.

INCORE Summer School 2009       
       

15-19 June 2009, Magee Campus, University of Ulster, Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland
Possible Bursaries Available for Northern Ireland Applicants Only
Application Deadline Friday 22 May 2009.

INCORE hope to have 10 bursaries (funded by the Community Relations Council) available for Northern Ireland candidates to the 2009 International Summer School.
The bursary covers tuition fees, accommodation, the opening buffet and the closing dinner.

We would very much encourage potential Northern Ireland participants to apply as our international participants benefit enormously from your expertise. Evaluations from previous Summer Schools have highlighted the value of this international networking.

Selection will be based on the following criteria:

Essential:

Resident or Working in Northern Ireland

Must represent the Community and Voluntary Sector

Education to degree level and/or Significant work experience in Peace and Conflict Related areas.

 

Desirable:

Education at undergraduate/post graduate level in Peace and conflict related studies.

 

We will prioritise applications from applicants who have not attended previous INCORE Summer Schools but those who have already attended are also welcome to apply.

Accommodation is provided for six nights from Sunday 14 June until Friday 19 June (inclusive)

Participants will be staying in an ensuite room in self-catering apartments with a shared kitchen and dining area. The apartments are situated in the University of Ulster Student Village, Duncreggan.

Community Places Information Workshop for Community Groups

 

Next Steps for Councils and Community Planning

Wednesday, 27 May 2009, 10.00 am to 12 noon, Play Resource, Duncairn Gardens, Belfast.

 

This workshop has been organised by Community Places to discuss recent Government consultation proposals for the next stages in the setting up of the 11 new District Councils and the introduction of Community Planning. The workshop will:

(a) explain the Government proposals for the formal establishment of 11 new bodies (called Transition Committees);

(b) outline the proposed powers and responsibilities of these new bodies;

(c) Discuss how community groups should respond to the consultation proposals.

 

Everyone attending will get a copy of Community Places draft response to the consultation proposals, our Information Pack on Community Planning and all the RPA changes and details of the support available from our Community Planning Project which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

A representative of the DoE Local Government Reform Unit will present details of the proposed powers and responsibilities of the new bodies for:

developing a vision for the new Council;

agreeing the structures of the new Councils and senior staff appointments;

setting of budgets and rates;

accommodation strategies;

communication and consultation; and

Initial arrangements for Community Planning.

Referral Procedures: Learn HOW, WHEN & WHO to refer clients to!

 

Would you know how to appropriately assist a service user to make contact with another service?

Quite often we encounter clients / service users that would benefit from the expertise of other community & voluntary or statutory sector organisations, but we are unsure who to refer the client to or how to refer them.

The CLEAR Project is offering Community & Voluntary Sector Organisations, who provide mental health and emotional well-being services the opportunity to participate in a FREE training & development session which will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to refer clients to other organisations.

At the end of this session you will be able to:

Identify options for referral who you can refer to / Determine how appropriate it is to refer clients to other organisations / Enable clients to take up referral opportunities / Receive referrals from other sources.

Global Connections courses

 

Global Connections is an Ulster Peoples College project which has been funded by DFID to deliver global education courses for community activists in Northern Ireland. We have successfully completed a range of courses and are now recruiting for our next 4 courses. These courses provide an excellent opportunity for activists to learn about global issues and their impact on life in Northern Ireland.

 

Race and Ethnicity: 30 April and 1 May 2009

As part of Northern Ireland Community Relations Week, we are running a 2 day course on Race and Ethnicity for community activists in Northern Ireland. This course will be accredited at OCN level 2. This course will explore the evolution of racism as a political ideology and will place focus on key related themes such as multiculturalism, interculturalism and diversity. The course will also examine key policy initiatives locally and regionally. The course will also look at the impact of and responses to increased migration locally, in Europe and globally.

 

Climate Change: 19 and 20 May 2009

This course will examine the current debates around climate change and global warming. It will look at the evidence for global warming and the arguments presented against climate change. It will also outline the various solutions that have been suggested by looking at what we as global citizens can do to deal with climate change. We will pay particular attention to water in terms of climate change, resource wars and privatisation.

 

Fair Trade/ Global Trade: 9 and 10 June 2009

This course will examine global trade by focusing on the history of international trade, how trade works and who it advantages and disadvantages. It will also give participants and understanding of key international agents and institutions and outline their role in international trade. The course will also focus on what the principles of fair trade might be and what the fair trade movement is about.

 

Human Rights: 23 and 24 June 2009

This course will look at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and will outline its relationship to the UN Millennium Development Goals. The course will develop an understanding of different approaches to human rights. It will give participants an understanding of both social and economic rights and civil and political rights and their development and realisation over time. There will be a particular focus on the development of a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland.

 

All courses will run from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and are all free of charge and will be held at the Ulster Peoples College.

'Working together: preparing to move forward & launch of new patient information


On 03 June 2009, The Lymphoedema Network Northern Ireland (LNNI) is holding a stakeholder event in The Lecture Theatre 1, Trust Headquarters, MDEC Building, Altnagelvin Area Hospital.  This event will focus on engaging all stakeholders in a workshop and a series of short presentations about the network.  A buffet lunch will be available from 1300 hours and the event will begin at 1400 hours. All health care professionals in the public and voluntary sectors, patients & carers are welcome to attend this free event. Princes Trust: Join the TEAM

 

The Princes Trusts TEAM programme works with unemployed 16 to 25 year olds. It targets educational underachievers, those who are in /or leaving care, young offenders/ ex offenders, single parents and those with addiction problems.

The young people will take part in an action packed 12 week programme which begins with team-building activities, including a week in a residential activity centre and completing a project within the local community, carrying out work placements and participating in Team challenges.

Participants will develop skills in communication, working with others, confidence building, tolerance and leadership.

I deliver first aid coursed at all levels from Basic first aid to Advanced first aid including Defibrillator familiarisation and Manual Handling courses.
