Public Participation Strategy Consultation

Monday 15th September 2008, 2–4pm, Clooney Hall Centre, Derry~Londonderry

North West Community Network, in conjunction with Strabane and Oakleaf Networks and on behalf of the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) are holding a public consultation in relation to a “Public Participation Strategy”.  RQIA is the independent body responsible for monitoring and inspecting the availability and quality of health and social care services in Northern Ireland.

Public Participation is used to define the involvement of the public with and in the work of an organisation.  The development of this Public Participation Strategy aims to structure, enhance and develop public involvement in the work of RQIA.  This is a central issue for all of us, a user-focused Public Participation Strategy is essential as listening to and acting on the views and opinions of the public responds to existing and emerging issues within health and social care and public participation is at the centre of this work.

If you would like to book a place on this important consultation please contact the Network by calling  028 7127 9090 or email: info@nwcn.org.  Places are limited so it is advisable to book early, refreshments will be provided.

‘Out and About’ Good Relations Networking /Best Practice visits.

A number of major funding streams opening shortly span across the Derry/Strabane/Omagh Council areas.  These include Peace III measure 2.1 and the Rural Development Programme.  Under the Review of Public Administration (RPA) the council areas of Strabane and Derry/Londonderry will also merge within the next few years.  In light of this context the Community Relations Officers from Omagh, Strabane and Derry City Council have organised a free networking opportunity for representatives from the Community and Voluntary Sector to increase awareness and contact across the three council areas.  These have been arranged as follows:

Tue 7th October: ‘Out and About’ in the Derry City Council area. Visit from Omagh/Strabane groups to Derry/ Londonderry area.  9am – 5.00pm. Free.

Tue 14th October: ‘Out and About’ in the Omagh/Strabane council areas. Visit from Derry City Council area to Strabane / Omagh areas. 9am – 5.00pm. Free.

In brief this is a two-day programme in which community workers will find out about examples of good practice across the council areas.  It has a particular focus on Good Relations work as this is the area of Peace III funding relevant to groups, but will equally allow general community development networking and sharing of ideas.   More detailed draft programmes are attached for each of these networking days as well as the registration form.

Save the Children – Kroo Bay

Want to know what it’s like growing up in Kroo Bay? It’s a slum town built on a rubbish dump in Sierra Leone, the toughest place in the world to be a child.  We’re working there to help stop the deaths of one in four children under the age of five.  You can explore Kroo Bay on our interactive website and meet the people, see what life’s like without electricity or clean water, watch what we are doing to change things and find out how you can help.
