The Big Three Oh!

A new fund will be created from donations given to this Community Foundation special birthday fund.  Your organisation may be able to benefit from this cash injection that can be used for core costs, a special project, or other activities.  If you wish to request support from the Big Three Oh funds you must complete and return the attached digital Proposal Form to the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland no later than 1.00pm on Friday 13th November 2009

Thirty selected groups will be invited to participate in an event, taking place on 25th November, and will receive an award of £200.  A draw will be held to select five applicants who will pitch their group / cause to an audience of donors who will vote on the allocation of a pool of money.  The actual amount will depend on funds raised from donors (who will also be 30) but we are hoping to raise in the region of £5,000.

Guidelines for applicants:

Requests for funds must be made by a 30 year old (born in 1979) representative who can speak on behalf of your group.  The beneficiary group should be voluntary (with no paid staff), independently constituted, and be able to demonstrate local community impact in Northern Ireland

Preference will be given to groups and activities which are open and inclusive i.e.  cross community or multi-cultural

Exclusions: Awards will not be made:

to individuals; to statutory organisations; to replace statutory funds; to fund trips abroad or outside NI

retrospectively and for promotion of religion

Only those applications submitted by the deadline (13 November) on the Big Three Oh! Proposal form will be considered.  Please see attached for further information

Community Relations Resource booklet

The Community Relations Officers of Derry and Strabane Councils are currently developing a Community Relations Resource for Community Groups in the Derry and Strabane Council areas.  The resource will take the form of a booklet, of which the objective is:

‘To develop a resource which will outline and promote the Good Relations services delivered by groups within the Derry City Council and Strabane District Council area’s in order to facilitate the sustainability of Good Relations Work Locally’

The resource will be distributed throughout Northern Ireland and will contribute to the sustainability of the groups.  The format that the resource will take will be, answering frequent questions for the user about Good Relations Services in the area e.g.

-I want to book a venue in the North West - a list of suitable venues, with information on rates, facilities, capacity; etc would be listed under this section.

-I want to do a Community Relations Training Course - A list of course providers and the Good Relations courses that they offer (both accredited and non-accredited) would be listed.

-I want to visit good relations projects - again information on Good Relations Projects would be provided.

-I want to visit some Good Relations historical sites/places

-I want to visit some single identity groups

The resource will include information on the group with contact information.  If your group could fit under any of the above categories, please fill in the attached submission form and return it to the stated address.

NIC-ICTU Campaign Rally – 1pm, Friday 6 Nov 09 – Custom House Street (Guildhall Square), Derry

NWCN wishes to support its Social Partners in the Trade Union movement in calling for ALL local community groups to attend this Friday’s rally (rallies also being held in: Belfast, Magherafelt, Armagh, Ballymena & Newry).

These rallies have been organised in reaction to potentially even more devastating cuts to public services than already signposted.  Community & Voluntary sector organisations are those tasked most often with providing services to the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society – the impact of further cuts can only be extremely damaging for those towards whom public services should most be targeted.  Show your support and attend the rally!

Please see attached flyer for further information.

Guidance from ISA about the Vetting and Barring Scheme

The new Vetting and Barring Scheme began to be rolled on the 12 October. The Vetting and Barring Scheme aims to prevent unsuitable people from undertaking certain paid or volunteer work with children or vulnerable adults (‘regulated activity’).
It will do this by vetting all those who wish to work with vulnerable groups and barring those where the information shows they pose a risk of harm and (in due course) vetting those who wish to do certain other types of work (‘controlled activity’).
The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has produced guidelines to inform employers, voluntary organisations, employees and volunteers, and covers:
• key points and objectives of the scheme
• the scope of the Scheme
• Key dates.
