Equality 2025’s second regional meeting is taking place in Northern Ireland at the City Hotel, Derry. Equality 2025 was set up in 2006 to make sure that disabled people’s voices are heard when the Westminster government decides anything that affects disabled people’s lives. Many decision’s taken in Westminster will continue to affect disabled people with disabilities in Northern Ireland. These include decisions on Welfare Reform, Criminal Justice and the UN Convention. We want you to tell us what we should be telling government about these issues as well as any others that affect you. Your chance to do that is on 14th May 2009. We invite you to apply for one of the 50 places at that meeting. An application form is enclosed and must reach us by Friday May 1st. The meeting will be at 10am until 3pm. Light refreshments and lunch will also be provided. Limited travelling expenses are available for those who would not be able to attend otherwise. Claims for expenses must be agreed in advance. If you are a member of any disability group or have disabled friends or family, please tell them about this meeting and encourage them to apply to come. Places are limited but even if you cannot come, we want to know your views. It is important that as many disabled people as possible tell us what matters to them, so that we can make sure that we advise the government about what disabled people really think. Our contact details are on the application form. However if you wish, you can e-mail me directly with your details and any access or dietary requirements. The e-mail address is gary@equality2025.org or ni@equality2025.org. We look forward to seeing you, either at this meeting or at some point in the future. |

Street Theatre Performances On the 1st and 2nd of May, 2009 Children in Crossfire and DesertFish Productions will be producing street theatre performances in various prominent locations throughout L/Derry as part of Community Relations Week. The theatre pieces developed are based upon workshops that explore the real experiences of people living in a diverse and sometimes divided city. From the experiences explored we will develop a forum play that will allow space for audience members to improve and better develop any community issues they may have. A forum piece can allow people from diverse communities to think about, see and rehearse options for living together constructively. Similarly, the street theatre will take a debate into the community. It will be a chance for all citizens to engage in a debate as to how to improve community relations in their city. Helen Henderson of Children in Crossfire says, “This is a great opportunity to engage the general public about issues of discrimination that affect us all.”
If you are interested in enjoying some theatre, the performances will be from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Friday, 1 May, and 12:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, 2 May. Contact Caroline Murphy for more information at 02871278948 or grainne@childrenincrossfire.org |
