A Dialogue Event for Women

 

Women into Politics and Derry City Council Invite You To A Dialogue Event for Women EXODUS, The Movement of Protestant People in a Divided City, A screening of Vinny Cunninghams film Exodus . It takes place on Wednesday 27th February 2008 in the Nerve Centre Cinema Derry/Londonderry @ 10.30am - 1.30pm (lunch included).

 

There will be after-show discussion with Diane Greer, Mary Nelis and Jeanette Warke. THIS EVENT IS FREE. Subsidised childcare and travel costs provided. RSVP ESSENTIAL AS PLACES ARE LIMITED.

The Foyle Branch will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday 26th Feb Broomhill Hotel commencing at 7.30pm. We have invited members of Foyle Epilepsy Action Branch to join us for the evening. After normal business a musical evening is planned.  All new members are cordially invited.

Ulster Cancer Foundation Two Day Training Course to Help People Stop Smoking

 

The Ulster Cancer Foundation has organise a Two Day Training Course to Help People Stop Smoking. It takes place in the Waterside Hospital, Seminar Room on the 7th & 14th March 2008 .

 

The Aims and Objectives of the course are as follows:

 

The aim: To help smokers stop smoking

 

Objectives: To examine the smoking habit

To explore smoking cessation strategies

To identify interpersonal communication skills.

To discuss how to set up and run a stop smoking group for pregnant smokers.

To examine group dynamics

To discuss available resources.

Leadership Training through the Arts - Delivered by YoMo Training (www.yomo.ie)

 

A practical one-day training course for young people, exploring leadership qualities through the use of the arts. The training aims to support and inspire groups to deliver a community project or activity immediately following the course. The course will be offered on each of the following three days:

Wednesday 26th March 2008

Thursday 27th March 2008

Friday 28th March 2008

Typical Group Size: 5 - 6 Young People with 2 Supportive Adults

Course Contents:

Identifying the needs of the local community

Examining the qualities of the group and individuals

Group workshops to share experiences

Examining the need for leadership for effective group work

Using Visual Arts to explore and express issues

Using Performing Arts to develop group presentation skills

Managing projects, people and resources

Action Plan Film

The training will take place in the new Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny.

Cathedral Youth Club 35 Years Celebration Concert

 

The Cathedral Youth Club is having a 35 years celebration concert in The Millennium Forum on Monday 3rd March 8.00pm. Star guest is the ever popular Dominic Kirwan. Tickets can be purchased at the Forum. This should be a great event as it is also supported by local community artists from across the City. The Cathedral Youth Club has supported many young people over the years and are delighted to welcome communities to come along and take part in the Celebrations. INCORE International Summer School

 

INCORE is pleased to announce that the International Summer School will be held from Monday 16th June to Friday 20th June 2008.

INCORE will offer three separate one-week courses: Evaluation and Impact Assessment of Peacebuilding Programmes; Reconciliation in Societies Coming Out of Conflict; and Transitioning from a Post-settlement to a Post-Conflict Society.

The school provides an intensive week of training, networking and discussion in the field of conflict resolution. It attempts to bridge the gap between policy, practice and research.

The INCORE Summer School is recognised by UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) Programme of Correspondence Instruction in Peacekeeping Operations, and may form part of The Certificate-of-Training In Peace Support Operations (COTIPSO) Programme.

18th March: The Cumanns twice-yearly draw in St. Annes P.S. 8.45pm

Much has been written about The Troubles but only in recent times has text regarding the peace process in the 1990s begun to emerge.  Drawing together quotations from a wide range of sources including politicians, academics, clergy, political activists, journalists and other commentators this book not only reflects key moments, arguments and issues but also represents the slow yet momentous political developments in Northern Ireland during the 1990s.  the things people say.... Greater Shantallow Community Arts Information seminar Eye Opener (A Parent Support Programme).

 

Greater Shantallow Community Arts are hosting a Conference/ Information seminar entitled Eye Opener ( A Parents Support Programme) across the Western Trust area on Tuesday 11th of March , which will provide Parents, Carers, and all adults who work with and communicate with young people, the opportunity to engage with in an open and supportive environment a host of statutory and community based support service organisations and bodies whose primary objectives are supporting parents of children affected by the issues of Drug & Alcohol Misuse, Bullying and Mental Health problems in particular Self Harm.

The Eye Opener project will use an innovative and visual format to communicate, educate and showcase to the attendees by means of film and documentaries which have been produced locally within the Western Trust area by young people themselves a series of issue related information packages on Self Harm, Bullying, Drug Misuse that will bring to parents/attendees a clearer understanding of the complexities, peer pressures and most importantly tell-tale signs that are associated with the issues raised.
