Have you a project that will transform shared or contested spaces within the NW PEACE III Cluster?

The NW PEACE III Partnership invites Expressions of Interest under its Capital Legacy Programme.  A maximum of three project proposals (one from each of the three partner Council Areas) are to be included in a bid for additional funding for the NW PEACE III Cluster.

The aim of the programme is to promote shared use of spaces as a means of developing understanding, acceptance and trust through the celebration of arts, sport and identity.  Due to the timeframe for delivery any project proposal must demonstrate a state of readiness for delivery by June 2013.  Proposals must also demonstrate need and fit with the PEACE III Programme Objectives and fit with the objectives of Theme 1.1 Building Positive Relations at the Local Level and the Strategic Priority 1 of the NW Phase II action plan ‘Sharing Spaces through celebration of culture, arts, sports and identity’.  Any capital investment must also be supported by a comprehensive programme of activities to ensure sustained use of the space.  The associated programming should wraparound the capital investment and clearly address sectarianism and racism with robust outcomes.  Any awards for funding will not exceed £250,000 and any award is subject to additional funding being made available to the NW PEACE III Cluster.

The deadline for completed submissions and any supporting documentation is Friday 13th January 2012 at 4.00pm.  All bids are to be submitted to the NW PEACE III Partnership Secretariat, Derry City Council, Council Offices, 98 Strand Road, Derry-Londonderry-Doire, BT48 7NN.  Expressions of interest will be acceptable via email or hard copy and must be received before the closing date and time.

Fuel Poverty Coalition petition

The Fuel Poverty Coalition has launched a petition “calling on the NI Executive to tackle comprehensively fuel poverty in the final Programme for Government 2011-2015.”  The petition also asks the NI Executive and Assembly “to include in the Programme for Government a commitment to:

Develop a detailed and costed action-plan setting out how and when fuel poverty will be eradicated in Northern Ireland; and

Provide continued support to households in severe fuel poverty to stay warm until fuel poverty is eradicated.”

The petition will coincide with the consultation period for the draft Programme for Government 2011-2015 (PfG).  The aim is to generate public support for our key asks; which we believe will strengthen the Coalition’s response to the draft PfG.

Members of the public can sign the petition on our revamped website, www.fuelpovertycoalition.org.uk .  Those who do not have access to the internet can also sign our petition using a freepost Fuel Poverty Coalition petition postcard.  In order to minimise the cost and to avoid delays producing the postcards we are using the Consumer Council’s freepost address.

We are asking for the support of our members promoting this petition within your organisation and also amongst the contacts in your distribution lists.  Also, if you or your organisation has direct contact with the public or attends public events we would appreciate if you could carry some petition postcards or a copy of the attached signature sheet.  You can contact me by reply e-mail or by phone on 028 9067 4839 to request copies.  Alternatively you can print the attached version.

I have attached a copy of the PDF of the petition postcard and signature sheet.  I also invite you visit the Coalition’s website to sign the petition.

If you have any queries or require additional information you can contact me using the details provided.

Launch of Timebank Small Grants Programme & Information Session

A Timebank is a community based project that measures and rewards the efforts that people make in their community by sharing their skills. Participants ‘deposit;’ their time in a bank by giving practical help and support to others and are able to ‘withdraw’ their time when they need something done themselves.

The overall aim of the session will be to give participants the confidence to start up a Timebank.  It will also focus on the essential skills for becoming a ‘Timebroker’.  A ‘Timebroker’ is a person who runs the Timebank and connects people locally.  The Timebroker can be paid or a volunteer, be connected to an organisation or be completely volunteer led.

The Small Grants Programme will be launched with an information and Q&A session for groups and organisations that are interested in applying for a seed grant to support or develop a Timebank that primarily supports and involves older people to enable them take the lead in making a positive and lasting change in their community.

The session will take place on Tuesday 17th January from 11am – 1.30pm in the North West Volunteer Centre.

Enneagram

We know everything we need to know to end the needless emotional suffering that many people currently experience.  High self-esteem and personal effectiveness is available to anyone willing to take the time to pursue it.

Louise Hay

What the Enneagram can do for you:

Knowing the (blind spots) of our own personality type and those of the people to whom we relate improves relationships immensely.

We become more compassionate towards ourselves and others. The enneagram can put a great many human/ interpersonal difficulties into perspective and the intentions of others are often harmless once they are explained.

We learn how to identify, acknowledge and accept our own deepest shadow elements (blind spots), negative tendencies and how to turn them to advantage for our own personal progress.

28 and 29 January 2012, Da Vincis Hotel

Cost £40.00

Morning tea and Lunches provided

Limited numbers of places available. Deposit of £10.00 non-refundable.

Carol Service on the Walls - TONIGHT

The second annual Carol Service on the Walls is taking place on the 19th December at 7pm on the walls opposite First Derry Presbyterian Church.  Following the success of last year’s event, where approximately 300 people braved the cold and icy conditions to attend the Carol Service, organizers have decided to make this an annual event.

The Carol Service is being organized by Rev David Latimer and Fr Canny with support from Derry City Council Community Relations Officers.  It is open to everyone in the city to come along to sing Carols and get into the festive spirit.  The event will give people the opportunity to take time out from the shopping and organising to reflect on the essence of Christmas and its religious and spiritual significance.  Most people get caught up in the hysteria and buying of gifts and actually forget that Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ, the carol service will give people the opportunity to reconnect with Christmas.

During the service, there will be performances from choirs from Colleges from the Maintained and Controlled sectors and will also be attended by Community Groups from both sides of the Foyle.  The event will culminate in refreshments being served in the Tower Hotel to allow people to have a warm drink and mingle with other attendees.

Derry City Council is also organising transport to the carol service to allow people better access to the event.  Busses will be provided from the Waterside and from the Shantallow/Galliagh area to the city centre and will also return.  Bus information is as follows:
