Community Relations Week - Why not organise an event?

Community Relations Week is an annual event across Northern Ireland and is co-ordinated by the Community Relations Council.  Locally Derry City Council also co-ordinate a programme of events – with usually about half of the events being organized by community and voluntary sector groups.  The week is open to anyone interested to organize an event (including faith based groups, businesses, statutory sector groups, schools, youth groups, trade unions etc).  Most events are free and open to the public and will have themes around Community Relations.  Events can celebrate or showcase CR work throughout the year or provide opportunities for people to participate in or be challenged through new experiences.

This year CR Week takes place from Monday 14th May to Saturday 19th May.  The theme this year is: 'No more them and us'.

We would encourage your group to consider organising an event this year to be part of the CR Week programme. CRC issue the CR Week printed programme to a wide range of people including media, government, MLAs, and a wide range of organisations involved in community relations work.  The local programme in the Derry City Council area is distributed to all community groups, schools, councillors and in public places.  The local strapline for this year will be ‘Deep breaths, Small steps’.

To have an event included in the programme please complete the attached form and return it on or before Monday 2nd April 2012 to sarah.weir@jprni.com.  Returning the form will automatically mean the event is included in the regional programme and the local one.

Potential Funding For CR Week Events:

- CRC (tel:  90227500 Paul Jordan pjordan@nicrc.org.uk) - Voluntary and community groups should note that any additional costs relating to a CR Week event may be eligible for grant aid from the CR/CD small grants scheme which opens in April.

Enquiries about the possibility of grant support for a CR Week event should be made to Paul Jordan or project officers in the Funding and Development team.

- Derry City Council Community Relations Support Grants (www.derrycity.gov.uk/grantaid) – support grant funding will open for applications at the end of February / early March (CR projects up to £1000 – constituted not-for-profit groups – see details).  Community Relations Officers (Sue Divin, Angela Askin or Carol Stewart) are happy to advise groups on any potential applications.

Big Telly Theatre Company presents Melmoth The Wanderer

Celebrating 25 years of outstanding theatre, sell out tours and a West End run, Big Telly, the company who brought you the ‘deliriously chaotic’ Puckoon (****What’s on Stage) brings to life another extraordinary book - Melmoth the Wanderer – the first ever horror novel, a brilliant mix of comedy and suspense.

Melmoth loves his job. He sold his soul in exchange for an extended life, international roaming and hypnotic charm. All he has to do in return is tempt others to the dark side. Easy. Also, he meets some really interesting people in his job, people at the edge of despair like the sane guy locked up in a madhouse, the illegitimate one hidden in a monastery, the gullible couple promised a huge inheritance, and then, out of the blue he meets an innocent, happy girl who’s grown up alone on a desert island and believes her father is a tree....Only one of them will survive.

All presented by five eejits who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A random playground of the bizarre inspired by Scream, Tim Burton and Fawlty Towers using projection, animation and squeaky toys. The sort of theatrical anarchy that sets Big Telly apart.

Gothic horror, Exquisitely dark, Wickedly comic.
