FundraisingNI beta site live

NICVA’s latest website www.fundraisingni.org has just gone live.  The website aims to provide advice to organisations and individual fundraisers to help Northern Ireland fundraise for good causes.

The website will provide help on fundraising from community, grants and trading sources of income for charities and other not-for-profit organisations.

fundraisingNI links in directly with the most popular social media channels, namely, Facebook and Twitter.  With Twitter we will be using the hashtags #fundraisingni #nifundraiser #GrantTracker and #charitytradeni.

There are separate pages for community fundraising, grantmakers and trading offering advice, news and events in each field.

The development of FundraisingNI aims to provide clear branding for general fundraising information that may have been ‘hidden’ beneath the GrantTracker name.

From now on GrantTracker will focus solely on information and guidance on grants, while taking and RSS feed from fundraisingNI’s grant makers page.

NICVA will look to redeveloping the GrantTracker website to offer new features and aims to launch in the Autumn.  Soon the guidance section on this website will be limited to grants information fed from FundraisingNI.  The new site is currently live in beta format but will be developed over the coming days, weeks and months.

The CTXchange programme from CTT

Helping charities through technology donations

Charity Technology Trust (CTT) helps charities and other civil society organisations to use technology to improve their effectiveness and, in turn, improve the lives of the people they serve.  As it can be hard for those organisations with limited resources to afford IT products, CTT set up the CTXchange programme in partnership with non-profit organisation Techsoup.

CTXchange distributes donated software and hardware to eligible UK charities and Charitable Housing Associations from various leading corporate technology donors, including Microsoft, Cisco and Symantec.

The types of products available are:

- Productivity software such as Microsoft Office

- Operating system upgrades e.g. Windows 7

- Security software including Norton Internet Security and Symantec Endpoint Protection

- Server software such as Microsoft Small Business Server 2011

- Web based collaboration solutions such as Huddle and Wikispaves

- Networking products

The programme is constantly expanding to include donations from other leading corporated technology donors.

To participate in the CTXchange programme, organisations are required to meet specific eligibility crieteria determined by each donor.  They are also asked to pay a small administrative fee to cover the costs of the programme.  The administrative fees do vary but organisations will still make savings of between 92 – 96% on typical retails prices.

To register for the CTXchange programme, or for further information, visit: www.ctxchange.org

New stories, new possibilities

To create a new story for our community we need to free ourselves from the old stories.

Like fish in water we are unaware of the many tribal beliefs that shape our behaviour in the community. Some of these beliefs have been unquestioned for hundreds of years e.g. “We were here first”, “This is our country”, “We have never been welcome.”   “No Surrender”. “Tiochaidh ar la”. This place should be called “Londonderry or Derry.”  “The other side can’t be trusted.”

As a result the community remains stuck with its own separate convictions, unable to release the past and experience new possibilities in how we create the future together.

The purpose of this course is to teach participants a simple process of enquiry that, when applied to limiting beliefs, provides an opportunity to discover new perspectives that are truer and ultimately more effective in creating harmony in the community.  This method of enquiry can also be used effectively in all areas of life, especially in conflict with others and personal stress.  The only requirement from the participants is an open mind.

The course will also draw on the expertise of local historians.

Get a real taste for Mountain Biking and Coasteering with Far and Wild

Launching a new series of summer taster days, local enterprise Far and Wild is using some great outdoor locations in Derry and Donegal area, right on your doorstep.  Since opening its doors in 2011, Far and Wild has been running tailored outdoor activities like canoeing, cycling, climbing and hiking in some of the North West’s most coveted beauty spots. Its aim is help people experience these remote locations first-hand and help preserve them while doing so.

Now, over the summer months, you can try your hand at Mountain Biking and the new sport of Coasteering.  Coasteering, which involves hiking along the coast in a wetsuit and jumping in when you can go no further on foot, is quickly gaining popularity right around Ireland.

Far and Wild is one of a number of organizations in the North West to recently receive an Unltd Social Enterprise Award which encourages local entrepreneurs to set up businesses that benefit the community. The company believes people get a genuine ‘breather’ from being outside and return refreshed and invigorated. Sustaining the local environment is also high up on Far and Wild’s agenda, so it can be a place for everyone’s enjoyment into the future.

You don’t need any experience to take part- and all equipment is provided. You can book as an individual or for your group. Coasteering Taster Days (£35/€40) are on Saturday 13 and 27 August. Mountain Biking Taster Days (£25/€30) are on Sunday 7 and 21 August. To book or inquire contact hello@farandwild.co.uk or phone +447775911198 or +442871 353018.
