Using the collective strength of our members we will campaign to:

- Protect vital jobs and services for our community

“The aim of the course is to support people who are unemployed in the Inishowen area, to provide information, to promote volunteering as a route back into employment and to encourage the development of an informal support network for course participants” said Sarah Thompson, Good Relations Officer with Donegal County Council.

“We will be inviting a range of different organisations to come and talk about what they do and to share information and ideas that will help people looking for work to think more widely about the options available to them” said Kate Wilkinson, Course Co-ordinator.

“It is challenging to be out of work at the moment and thinking about volunteering for example, as a way back into work, is one of the areas we will cover on the course, along with other things such short work placements.  The course is free and it is an opportunity to talk about getting back to work in an informal and supportive way over a cup of coffee.”

If you are interested in attending the course, contact Kate Wilkinson on 086 877 9506 to secure a place.

This project is part-financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Donegal County Council.

The Ramblin Boys of Pleasure

Sun Feb 27th The Ramblin Boys of Pleasure playing music from Ireland and other places will be in concert at Sandinos, DerryDoors 8.30 Band on stage 9pm

Kevin Sharkey flies in from England Noel Lenaghan strolls from Donegal and Roy Arbuckle strolls down the street.

All roads lead to Water St for this rare chance to hear the Ramblin Boys in full flight.

The Ramblin Boys of Pleasure is more than a band it's a lifestyle, it's about looking for that spark of joy in the every day, in the supermarket, in the post office queue, in washing the dishes and especially in the music!

The concept and the music took the Ramblin Boys all over the US in the 80s and recently they have got together occasionally to rekindle that magic through their blend of traditional, contemporary and original music.

Kevin Sharkey ... (Percussion) is recognized as one of Derry's best ever drummers, now living in Cumbria, Kevin plays Djembe, Bodhran and tabla and started his musical career at 15 in a rock and roll band, later playing with several progressive rock groups in and around the city and has toured extensively with That Petrol Emotion, Different Drums of Ireland and currently occasionally sits in with The Undertones.

Noel Lenaghan ... Singer, songwriter, flute, mandolin and guitar player Noel Lenaghan is a musician whose work is steeped in the Irish tradition. Although he has a huge body of tunes and songs from the reservoir of Irish traditional music, his repertoire draws on a variety of sources. Born in Belfast, now living in Donegal Noel was heavily influenced by the musical renaissance that took place during the 60's and 70's in Ireland and has recently released two solo albums, mostly of his own material.

Roy Arbuckle … Singer, songwriter, rhythm guitar, bodhran.

"Roy has a voice you could take a bath in" O.R.Melling - Irish Times

People with long memories will remember Roy from his early days with showbands and in the 70's with folk band Chaff. He moved to North America in 1978 and toured extensively with Fiddlers Elbow and later The Rambling Boys of Pleasure. He founded the internationally renowned Different Drums of Ireland in 1991 and has also released solo albums the latest 'Songs of the Fountain' gaining critical acclaim here and in the US.

Ken has researched and written about the Knoxs for some years and he always delivers a very interesting lecture which shouldn't be missed.

If he has time, Ken will also briefly mention Bishop Hervey, one of the great historical figures of the city, as he has recently researched and written a play about him.
