Planning
For Retirement Programme - Transitions Thinking of
Retirement? Or maybe newly
retired and finding it difficult? Thought about
the life changes you may have to make? How will you
fill your time? Worried about
coping with a reduction in income? What about
your health growing older? The Workers’
Educational Association under the Learning Age Project is offering a new
course to the public aged 50+ who may be thinking of retirement or who may
be facing redundancy due to the down turn. It is also suitable for those
already newly retired but maybe finding the transition in retirement more
challenging than expected. The
“Transitions” Retirement Course” encourages participants to consider their
options about retirement and also provides up to date information and
signposting to relevant support agencies. The aim of the
programme is to consider the changes that take place at retirement and how
they can be successfully managed, for example by examining the changes to
lifestyle and the challenge that retirement brings such as how to manage
on a lower income and by posing what health and well being aspects
participants may need to consider as they grow older. There is also a look
at how to use additional free time such as volunteering or attending
education classes etc. Through the programme we hope to turn negative
attitudes of retirement into a positive personal approach. This programme
will encourage participants to develop a personal action plan for a
successful transition to retirement by: - Reflecting
on participant’s skills and experiences - Identifying
the keys to a positive retirement - Researching
local facilities - Setting
exclusive personal goals

sessions commencing: Saturday 1st October 2011 from 9.30am to 1pm

Creative
Approaches to Literacy is kindly funded by The Department of Employment
and Learning, The European Social Fund, and The Arts Council. The projects
main goal is to help young people who have a deficit in literacy and who
are not in education. The project therefore aims to ‘reduce inactivity’ by
improving the employability of young people not in
education. Priority
1: The project
seeks to ‘improve’ the skills of workers without essential ‘basic’ skills
and low or no qualifications. Priority
2: We believe
that this is a new and innovative approach to literacy training,
particularly for people who have not successfully engaged with formal
education. The Playhouse
offers an alternative approach, by using the arts as an alternative medium
to develop literacy skills.
The Literacy curriculum encompasses the following Core Elements -
Speaking, Listening, Reading &
Writing. Artskills
offers young people the opportunity to participate in creative training
that will enhance their Literacy ability. This innovative approach is an
opportunity for them to develop skills & interests whilst engaging in
meaningful, social and creative activity. The Playhouse will ensure that
all participants are signposted towards additional training &
opportunities to further develop skills / interests in Performance &
Creative Writing. The project
aims to reach out and engage with 370 young people throughout the
Northwest. Over the next 3 years our aim is to enhance self confidence
& self esteem in our participants, enabling them to improve their
literacy levels in a fun and accessible way. The project will lead to the
attainment of 6 The Playhouse
provides a neutral, creative, non-formal and safe learning environment
that attracts individuals who have underachieved through formal
educational systems. The alternative arts-based training that we deliver
is recognised as being an effective way of developing essential skills.
