get your community online BT Community
Connections is an award scheme which offers community groups the chance to
get online and help people discover the wonders of the internet. If your
group helps the community access the internet and improves people’s ICT
skills, you could be eligible to apply for a year’s free broadband. The
scheme supports a diverse range of community and charitable groups across

Consultation
launched on Community Development Strategy – your views
matter The Health and
Social Care Board and the Public Health Agency have launched for public
consultation, a new Community Development Strategy. The consultation
period will close on Friday 02 September
2011. The kinds of
health and social care issues which can be improved by community
development approaches include depression; isolation; falls amongst
elderly people; child protection; teenage pregnancy; childhood asthma;
postnatal depression; drug and alcohol abuse; and ultimately also long
term conditions such as obesity, diabetes and
cancer. The Board and
Agency have jointly held pre-consultation workshops and are now keen to
receive feedback from others.

people is also part of promoting equality of opportunity and human

everybody understands how they can have a say in health and social

Women
into Public Life (WIPL) Autumn training
programmes Plans are
underway for the next two ‘Going Public’ training programmes which will
take place in Killybegs and Derry/Londonderry and will start week
beginning 12th September 2011. The programme will use a variety of
learning methods. Training will be delivered in a manner that encourages
participants to relate the learning and experience to their own committees
and communities.
A Strategic
Leadership Programme is also being planned which is aimed at women who are
already in leadership positions and will be run over 14 days. It will take
place in Derry/Londonderry and Letterkenny. Further information and
application forms for this programme will be circulated in the coming

a regional cross border partnership between three women's organisations,
Foyle Women's Information Network (Derry/Londonderry), Second Chance
Education Project for Women (Donegal) and Engender (Scotland) with Donegal
County Council as the lead partner. The overall aim of the project is to
address the continuing under-representation of women in public life. WIPL
is funded by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA Programme and managed
by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) www.seupb.eu and
involves a programme of activities to be delivered over a three year
period. |

FREE
Media and Communications Training - 15th
September Does your
group communicate effectively? Do you get publicity for the work
that you do? Why not take
part in a practical hands-on communications course that will teach you all
you need to know about getting your message across?
Due to a high
demand the last time this course was run, Derry City Council is offering
groups a second opportunity to avail of a FREE
training course that will give you the skills to deal with the media and
all aspects of communication. Delivered by former Radio Foyle
presenter Paul McFadden and former Radio Foyle Head of News Eimear
O’Callaghan, this course will teach you how to use the media to promote
the work your group is doing - how to write a press release, how to
prepare for a radio interview, react under pressure and enjoy the
experience! It will take
place on Thursday 15th
September, 9.30am – 4.30pm in the Conference Room, Derry City

Training Officer with Action on Hearing Loss, is offering community groups
a free 2
hour Deaf Awareness Talk any morning or afternoon (to suit your needs)
from September 11 onwards. The session
will be provided free of charge and will be of interest to a broad range
of community groups. Many people in our families and our communities
experience hearing loss. Information on how to support and
include people with hearing difficulties is useful for everyone. If

Time-out / summer camp teams are keen to organise a drum circle at the
Teepees at Roscor. We are asking the NWCN community if they have any
percussion instruments i.e bongos, tom toms, djembes, snare drums,
bodhrans, tambourines, maracas etc. that they do not use / need at home if
they would like to donate them to this project they would be well used and
well appreciated. Any donations

Documentary "PARADISO" entirely filmed in Derry will be screened as part
of the FEILE in The film was
recently awarded Best Director Award in With the

Director prize goes to "Paradiso" by Alessandro Negrini, for the treatment
of topics like conflict and reconciliation in a sensitive and humoristic
touch, rendering the movie appealing. Cheerful characters render the
narration's structure lively. The film has
won 14 International Awards so far. "PARADISO" is
directed by Italian director Alessandro Negrini and produced by Irish
producer Margo Harkin, Besom Productions and commissioned by BBC NI.

Local dance
company, Echo Echo is movin’ its annual summer scheme up to The Playhouse
studio this August, starting on Monday
15th. Echo Echo will
be offering one week of dance and movement classes for two different age
groups- 5 to 7 year olds and 8 to 12 year
olds. The summer
schemes are open to boys and girls of all abilities and there is no need
for any previous dance experience. The creative classes are all about
learning to move and making new friends. The 5-7 year
group is from 10am to 11am each morning and costs £20 for the full week.
The 8-12 year group starts at 11.30am and runs until 1pm costing £30.

Club resumes its training schedule during August on Thursday nights from
8.30 pm at St Columb's Park astro pitch. Boys of 15yrs and over are
