Valuing People, Valuing Their Participation Involving You and Listening to You

Purpose of this report:

To help people who use health services to be more involved:

- Involving people is now part of the law

- Involving people is also part of promoting equality of opportunity and human rights

- The law uses big words such as Personal and Public Involvement, but want to ensure everybody understands how they can have a say in health and social services

- Important to listen to people who use health services

- Listening to what you say helps to make health services better

- The plan tells you about how to get people involved

- The plan also tells you about other things that health services need to do.

Free Training Course in Global Citizenship

Inside Out is looking to compile a list of interested practitioners (primarily across the North West but not exclusively so) who would be interested in completing its accredited OCN 'Network Earth: Global Citizen for the 21st Century' Training programme.

The programme has been successfully delivered to young people across the North West over the last 18 months in partnership with Children in Crossfire and we now wish to incorporate a 'Training the Trainer' component to this work (so as to extend the reach of the programme) to interested practitioners who in turn wish to develop the skills necessary for delivery to young people in their own youth club, organisation or community work setting.

The programme provides 30 hours training in Global Citizenship with a particular focus on poverty and includes delivery of a local project.

There is no cost to the training other than time and commitment consists of two day-long sessions (scheduled for Sat 8th October and Sat 5th November) and a weekend residential at Gartan Outdoor Education Centre (scheduled for 14-16th October).  Additional time will be required to complete the local project which is a pre-requisite for successful accreditation.

If you would be interested in being included on this list of interested practitioners please contact Fergal Barr at thekingisalive@hotmail.com.

Please note that practitioners must be aged 18 and over.

First Japanese taiko drumming group in the north of Ireland, Ibuki

Ibuki Taiko was founded by Derry woman, Fiona Umetsu, in 2010. Fiona studied Taiko drumming in Tokyo from 1996-2000 and has been trying ever since to find a way to introduce this wonderful drumming to people here in the North of Ireland. The size of the drums and the logistics of getting them here from Japan made this a long labour of love. But happily, she is now in the position of being able to offer classes for groups of up to 10 people. Whether it is an on-going class or a one-off team building workshop, Ibuki Taiko can provide a challenging and exciting experience.

There are many Taiko groups running very successfully in schools and communities throughout England and Scotland but we are the very first group of this kind in Northern Ireland. Not only can Ibuki Taiko provide an insight into Japanese culture and musicology but the sense of belonging, of achievement and of excitement created by performing in a Taiko group is comparable to nothing else. Here in the North of Ireland, it has the added benefit of being unique, cross-cultural and cross-denominational. It is open and accessible to anyone, regardless of background, previous musical experience or fitness ability.

Classes and workshops are currently held at the Galaxy GTC building in the Springtown Industrial Estate, Derry. Please contact Fiona at 07726611862 or on our Ibuki Taiko facebook page if you require any further information.
