NIE Staff and Pensioners Charity Fund
The NIE Staff and Pensioners Charity Fund were formed in 1988 as a registered charity. It is funded mainly by NIE staff, pensioners and an annual company donation from NIE.
The Fund will only support registered charities based in Northern Ireland or charities occasionally providing help to people from Northern Ireland.
They will fund: - Specialist equipment or - Helping to promote service of local charities
It should be understood that this funding is only available for purchase of equipment and/or printing costs. They recommend that applicants include a wish list of items they require with itemised budgets.
The fields in which grants are awarded generally fall within: - Disability - Older people - Health/therapeutic care Grants are available up to £2,000.
How to apply: If you wish to apply to the NIE Charities Fund, apply in writing to the contact. Include details of your group, the equipment required and how your charity and user group (s) will benefit. Also enclose the group’s most recent annual report or most recent audited accounts and a contact name and address. The Committee meets every six weeks to assess applications and make decisions. Platform for Change Election Hustings, 6th - 18th April
Platform for Change is holding a series of hustings to facilitate dialogue between candidates and the wider public in the run-up to the Assembly elections. A panel of speakers from the various political parties will be invited to debate questions and comments from the floor at each of the events.
We believe that the pre-election campaign should be focused on substantive policy issues in areas such as social inclusion, sustainable development, and a shared future. Our hustings are open to everyone – there is no need to register for any of the events. We also invite you to submit comments and questions in advance to contact@platformforchange.net

Drink Think are holding a Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder seminar this Tuesday 12th April from 9am-1pm at the Waterfoot Hotel.

Sion Mills Community Association – Summer Scheme Volunteers Interested in a Summer Activity? Sion Mills Community Association is planning ahead and is recruiting volunteers for its summer scheme in July & August. The scheme will be hosted at the community association and the roles are varied and flexible.
The project which aims to reduce social isolation and support vulnerable older people is recruiting volunteer befrienders, dementia volunteers and support volunteers; each role is flexible takes place daily and is ongoing.
Irish Street Community Association The Community Association is seeking volunteers to help support their current programme of activities at the centre, including supporting the youth club and activities organised for the local seniors.
Derry City Council – Wildlife Surveyor Fancy a volunteer role that requires you to volunteer on a sunny day? Derry City Council is seeking willing volunteers to conduct butterfly surveys at Bay Road during the Spring & Summer period, once a week on a sunny day!
Little Hands Surestart Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles; you could volunteer at the crèche, after schools club, two year old programme, parent & toddler group, office, parenting programmes.
Take the Reins Want to volunteer with children and animals? Take the Reins provides horse-riding for children with learning disabilities every Tuesday from 9am -2.30pm, covering two two-hour sessions. Full training and support will be provided no experience needed. Opportunities available in Artigarvan Riding School.
Galliagh Development Trust Is recruiting Volunteer Play workers. The volunteers will help with the supervision of children participating in a summer programme the opportunities are daily, flexible and ongoing throughout the Galliagh area.

Aware Defeat Depression is seeking to add to our register of sessional trainers to deliver our Moodmatters mental health, stress and depression awareness programme. This award-winning programme is mainly delivered to young people in schools and other appropriate settings. It is also delivered to adult groups, later year’s groups and pregnant mothers/partners. Sessions normally last approximately 90-120 minutes.
On completion of training, successful applicants will be paid a sessional rate and mileage allowance where appropriate for all courses delivered. Applicants must have own transport and be able to travel throughout Northern Ireland, however we will endeavour to offer trainers sessions within their local area. As these posts will involve working with young people and vulnerable adults successful applicants will be subject Access NI checks.
Minimum requirements: Essential Qualified to ‘A’ level standard Experience of working with groups of young people Experience in the delivery of training Good knowledge and understanding of mental health/mental illness
Desirable Qualification in the field of Mental Health Mental Health First Aid certificate ASIST certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) (Criteria may be enhanced for short listing)

Diploma in Drug and Alcohol Studies
This is a one-year part-time programme of study that has been developed by the University of Limerick, in partnership with the Health Service Executive (West Limerick, Donegal and Dublin Mid Leinster areas), Vocational Education Committees (City of Limerick and Donegal), the Mid West and North West Regional Drug Task Forces, and the North West Alcohol Forum Ltd. It has specifically been designed as a progression route from a Level 6 Certificate in Addiction Studies (or equivalent).
Successful completion of the programme leads to the award of a Level 7 Diploma, equivalent to 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits.
The programme is accredited by the University of Limerick and is delivered on the University of Limerick campus and in two outreach locations: Cherry Orchard Hospital, Dublin and Donegal VEC, Magh Ene College Bundoran or Errigal College Letterkenny.
The course has been developed in response to expressed needs for educational progression routes in the area of Drug and Alcohol Work. It also aims to support actions in National Drug and Alcohol policy that call for increased training opportunities for individuals working in the field.
The programme is designed for practitioners in the drug and alcohol field and practitioners who come into contact with individuals at risk for drug and alcohol misuse. The programme may suit health professionals, social care professionals, teachers, guidance counsellors, youth and child care workers, prison officers, Gardai, probation officers and community workers among others.
