The Sheila McKechnie Foundation Campaigner Awards 2011
The SMK Campaigner Awards 2011 are now open for applications. There are nine categories this year: Consumer Action; Environment; International Campaigner; Local Campaigner; London Social Justice; Shout Out!; Social and Economic Justice; Take Action and Transport. To read more and to apply, click here.
The annual SMK Campaigner Awards provide a support programme for emerging and grassroots campaigners working across a wide range of issues. Campaigning can be exhilarating and rewarding but we know that the reality is often hard work and a lot of frustration. The awards scheme offers a unique development package to campaigners aiming to equip them with the skills they need to make a greater impact and achieve real change.
The awards are for individuals who are new to campaigning or operating with few resources and who show passion, tenacity and the potential to create change – locally, nationally or globally. The package of support does not include cash prizes but uses a model of action learning to share knowledge and acquire skills. This programme is completely bespoke involving an initial assessment; one-to-one coaching sessions; development workshops; and shadowing or mentoring opportunities. To read more about the package of support winners' receive click here. |

Summer Play Scheme programme 2011 - The Hilden Charitable Fund
The Hilden
Charitable Fund awards grants to projects both in the UK and in
developing countries. The aim of the fund is to address disadvantages,
notably by supporting causes which are less likely to raise funds from
public subscriptions. Both the UK and overseas
fund policy is directed largely at supporting work at community level.
Grants are rarely given to well-funded national charities; grants are not
given to individuals. | |

This workshop offers the opportunity to learn more about trees and have the chance to develop your ability to connect with trees through meditation.
The Hawthorn is respected as a tree of enchantment under protection of the faerie realms. It is associated with love, marriage and procreation. It has been used medicinally for heart problems. This is one of a series of monthly Connecting with Trees workshops.
The workshop is facilitated by David Simpson an experienced workshop facilitator who has developed work with trees over the last two years. The workshop will take place at St Columbs Park House on the Waterside. Price: £20.00. Bring outdoor shoes and outdoor wear. Timetable of future workshops available by email/phone.
