Introduction to Brief Intervention Approaches
This 1-day course is for practitioners working with clients who are using/misusing alcohol and cannabis. However Brief Intervention, as an approach, is helpful for anyone who is working with an early intervention brief – including those working with other substances and in the sexual health field.
- Are you working with clients and you want to find a way to raise awareness of drug related harm and help people look at behavioural change? - Do you work with clients who you believe use alcohol or cannabis in a harmful or hazardous way? - Do you find ‘bringing up’ the topic of their use hard and would you like to make a real difference in a client focused, non-threatening way? - Do you want to be able to engage with your client through using simple, effective brief intervention techniques?
Brief Intervention is a recognised approach which works with clients/patients whose alcohol & drug use impacts on them negatively. Aimed at those who are not yet dependant users, Brief Intervention is a way of working that enables you to: - Raise awareness of the issue of their substance use/misuse - Raise awareness of harm - Seek to minimise risks and - Invite change
If you want to develop skills around supporting clients in changing alcohol and cannabis use and want to feel more confident about engaging with clients around these emotive topics, then this course can help you.
Date: Thurs 24th March 2011 Times: 10.30 – 4.30 Venue: The Station Centre, Omagh To book a place on this course please contact: Debbie Hunter 028 7186 5127 or e-mail Deborah.Hunter@westerntrust.hscni.net |

International Women’s Day 2011 - Remembering and Celebrating Women’s Lives
The “Book of Belles” The ‘Book of Belles’ is a celebratory book created by women marking 100 years of International Women’s Day. Through representations of women, the ‘Book of Belles’ gives expression to that which women consider important to celebrate and remember. Collectively the ‘Book of Belles’ beautifully illuminates the determined and visionary spirit of many women locally and internationally and bears testament to the vigour and resilience with which women live their lives. Each individual art piece is also a personal tribute to a woman. This creative collection highlights both the diversity and the connections which exist between women on personal, local and global levels.
The Book of Belles was undertaken by a coalition of Women’s groups, co-ordinated by Derry Women’s Centre and including Eden Place Arts Centre, The Tower Museum, and including Eden Place Arts Centre, The Tower Museum, and Waterside Women’s Centre, Ruth Moore and Roisin O Donnell.
